Still Slowly Unpacking

I thought I would update everyone so that you would know that I hadn't fallen off the face of the earth!  Because I am sooooooo much better at packing than unpacking...it has been going rather slowly.  Like one box a night slowly!

Because there is so much to unpack and I'm a little overwhelmed by seeing/touching/feeling all of what I own...y'know ignorance really is bliss...that I end up stopping and contemplating the contents of each box.  Whereas when I packed the box it was more like throw it in, make it safe and keep it moving, y'know?!  Anyway the sewing machines and of course the computer are set up now.

My mojo has fled...probably because it doesn't want to be involved in unpacking any boxes! *LOL*  I'm sure it will be back once everything is settled.  Just wanted to give an update...

...as always, more later!

  1. Carolyn, don't let the slow unpacking bother you! I moved in February 2010 and am still not settled. You see, I have a couple of chronic pain syndromes and am forced to just take my time. After a while, you learn to live with it. The "shtuff" will wait for you!

  2. Thank you for the update, Carolyn. Sometimes slow is good. Enjoy the unpacking! Hopefully, you won't have to do it again for a long. Those machines look ready to go. :)

  3. The slow unpacking at some point will revitalize your sewing mojo, its just waiting for the right fabric to reveal itself.

  4. Do take your time. Slow unpacking results in much better organisation. Which in turn leads to less mess. And that gives you more time for sewing :) Thanks for the update though!

  5. Hang in there. Even if it is just one box a night, you will come to the end of your boxes and the task will be done! At least you have the sewing machines set up in case you need a sewing break :)

  6. I know how it feels when the unpacking seems slow.. "where should I put tis?" "where's the thing that goes with that?" Give yourself some rewards between boxes and be good to yourself. Your sewing room is going to be delicious.

  7. You probably only need to unpack a few more boxes, you already have most of your essentials out and waiting for you (hehe), everything else, take your time. This is also a perfect oppurtunity to assess that which you truly want to keep and that which needs to find a new home. Heck a lot of my stuff is still in boxes because I have nowhere to put it at the moment. I need to move into a bigger place.

  8. It takes a while. My son built me a new cabinet in the kitchen, so I could reorganize, and it's taken me a week. And that's just one room. Do enjoy rediscovering all of your textile treasures.

  9. No problem going slow, moving can be so over whelming. It's interesting to see all your lovely creations are made on the same sewing machine I use and love too!

  10. Gosh--you have done a remarkable job of unpacking and setting up your sewing room in a short time~I'm impressed! We are contemplating a move as well, and I'm so NOT looking forward to the packing and unpacking part. A new house, a better location for us, better sewing studio, all pluses. Actually moving, not so much! I'm anxious to see your first project in your new digs.

  11. Your comment about ignorance being bliss really made me chuckle. I so feel like that about my fabric stash and my shoes! I haven't moved in 16 years, but I'm still finding things in corners and hide-a-ways that I'd completely forgotten I owned! And I second Sheila: your mojo is just waiting for the right fabric/project. I do hope you enjoy settling into your new place.

  12. Heh, we should get together for moves. I am the opposite, I think and consider and try to sort every single thing I own as I pack and it takes FOR E VER. But once I get to the new place it's like Christmas morning and everything gets opened at once. :)

  13. I wasn't worried you'd fallen off the face of the earth, more like worried you'd gotten buried under boxes. I hear you on the ignorance is bliss. Last time we moved, I kept unpacking and thinking "why did I bother to move this?".

As far as the mojo, maybe you'll probably find a pattern and fabric while unpacking and sit down right then and start sewing. Maybe it will wait until everything is unpacked and you have a day to look around, rest and gather your thoughts.

  14. Carolyn, when you least expect it, you will get your sewing mojo back. In the meantime, take your time getting things organized. You will be very happy you got organized once the mojo kicks in. Your sewing room is the size of my apartment :-).

  15. Perhaps your sewing mojo decided to give you a little peace while you have to unpack. Otherwise, it would be dancing around your head holding up fantastic dresses that you need to create Right Now!

    Hugs to you,
    Renee

  16. Yes.... like Gail D. said... the "shtuff" will wait for you... unless your one of those lucky people that may have some sort of "house elf" that comes along and puts everything away and tidies up when your asleep!
Seems to me that you have set up your oasis to go to when you want to get away from the boxes... What's not to like!

  18. We moved 11 years ago - from apartment to house - and the packing was a pain, unpacking not so much - but I wouldn't want to do it now. I didn't have a stash back then ! LOL

No worries, it'll all get done in good time and your mojo will show up.

  19. Much better to take your time and unpack at a pace that works for you! You must be exhausted - moving is so traumatic - but now the worst is over you can really begin to enjoy your new surroundings.

  20. I never really felt I belonged in a new place until all my pictures were hung, but I didn't have a stash then. I think it's not going to feel done for you until the stash is up.
