The Christening Jacket - so far...

I think I've gone overboard because this is turning into a little Princess' dress...but here is the jacket so far...

The jacket is made from the rayon/silk satin with the lace on top. My favorite part of the jacket and the dress is the pearl piping trim which came from my notions stash.

The jacket still needs sleeves.  I need to make a bonnet.  The string of pearls need to be hand stitched to the bodice of the gown...and the buttonholes completed.  I have to deliver it to the baby's mother on Friday.

Once these final details are completed, I may post more details, or I may not!  *smile*  I've still got Christmas scarves to sew and two weekends before Christmas, so I need to hop to it!

...and I will have to ask the baby's mother if I can post pictures of her daughter in the outfit...so there may only be pictures of the finished outfit...

...as always, more later!

  10. Carolyn,
Your sewing is beautiful. What a beautiful ensemble! What a lucky little girl and family to get an heirloom.
You have now scared me. TWO WEEKENDS?!!! I am sitting at home sick for the third week going from sinus infection-influenza-ear infection-pneunomia. I am a teacher with no voice at Christmas. I won't be making Christmas gifts this year.
Your sewing always inspires me, thank you!

  13. Do you have an embroidery machine or know someone who does? When I made a christening gown, I added the baby's name and birth date on the inside hem of the slip. Also added my initials and a date really small. If it is intended as family heirloom, they can add the names of all the other babies that wear it to the hem as the years go by. it is a nice touch that makes it special. I borrowed a machine and did it easily- and I had never embroidered before. Some that special should have your name on it. Great job!

  14. The whole outfit is looking gorgeous! I remember when my mom and I went shopping for supplies so that she could make my oldest a coat (we used my husband's family gown). She hand embroidered it and a bonnet. Both my boys wore it and recently my nephew. I'm sure your pieces will become family heirlooms!
