Is it Winter or is it Spring?

I'm telling you it's hard to tell here on the East Coast!  The calendar says "Spring"...the weather says "Winter."  They are predicting a snowy/rainy mix here in the Tri-State area for tomorrow morning, right around the time I will have to commute to work...*sigh*  Because of this, it makes it hard to know what to sew...

However, I've decided to go ahead with spring sewing.  I refuse to endorse this weather since I'm confident in the fact that spring will come...some day!  Originally I was going to sew a quickie and I still will make that garment but I just wasn't feeling it yesterday when I went to pull fabric.

Instead this fabric really called out to me.    It is a French Linen blend vintage floral tapestry purchased last month from Emmaonesock.  I bought this fabric knowing that I wanted to make another version of Butterick 5147 which is sadly now out of print (OOP).

Butterick 5147

I love this dress pattern as much as I love my TNT dress pattern.  It wears easily, looks professional and sews up well in a lot of different fabrics.  I've already made five versions of this dress. This will be the sixth one and I can guarantee that there will be more.  Hey, I really like the dress! *LOL*

I've decided that I just want to sew more than I wanted a quickie.  A quickie meant that I had to finish it today.  Just sewing means that I can meander along and enjoy the process...because it's not like I'm going to be able to wear this dress anytime soon, anyway.

Friday is Good Friday and my office is closed.  So I'll work on the coordinating jacket to The Lace Dress, Friday and Saturday.  All the pieces are all cut out, it just needs to be sewn together.  I can get that accomplished in two days and probably finish up whatever isn't completed on this dress, too.

Those are my plans for today, to just sew...

...as always more later!

  1. Random comment - I took a tour of the garment district on Friday with about 11 other ladies. Mimi Jackson lead the tour and we had a lot of fun. At lunch, one of the ladies asked if we read any good sewing blogs, and at least 4 of us all mentioned your blog to her at the same time. So there were alot of Carolyn blog lovers in the group, including myself, and we turned some others onto your blog. It was a very fun day.

  2. I can't wait to see your rendition of this timeless pattern. I love it so much and feel that everyone should have it in their stash. I can't believe they made it an OOP but that's okay for me since I stocked it a while ago and have 2 copies of it.

  3. I have been complaining about the same sewing issues. It's spring...really? its still very cold here in Buffalo and it snowed every day last week. Yet the stores have out spring clothes and spring fabrics. I want to make a few things, but I struggle this time of year. What will keep me warm but still look new? Where do I find transition fabrics in spring colors? My stash is definitely 1 season or the other- no in between. I am still wearing turtlenecks, yet the stores are showing shorts and swimsuits! I think I need to stock up on ponte because it can be layered to keep me warm. Why do we live where it is cold?

  7. I'll send you some Aussie heat - it is meant to be Autumn and yet the summer heat (along with the tropical storms) are still in full swing.

  8. Lovely fabric!!! I am surprised I did not see that at EOS. It has been snowing here in Roanoke since 10AM and finally stopped about 1/2 hour ago. I hope that this signals the end of winter.

  9. Great fabric and pattern, can't wait to see your version. I know what you mean about spring/winter. We have 10+ inches of snow since last night. I tried to go to church but the roads were awful, we turned around and went home. I couldn't get into clothes today, so I have made 2 lap quilts.

  12. Oh I wish I had that pattern. This is going to be another stunner. I'm always surprised at how much longer things take me than I think they will. g

  17. Nice dresses and they fit perfect on you. I'm on the east coast too (a Mid-Atlanticer--if there's any such word) LOL. You're right: the weather has been WILD: 27 degrees earlier this week (waking up to), high winds, rain early this AM. It's suppose to get decent this weekend.

Glad you started spring sewing without waiting for SPRING (we may be waiting for a minute)!
