For myself !! It even has the reprint booklet of fashions that came in 1959. People complain that her waist is too small, so that girls try to be overly skinny like Barbie. But Barbie's waist has to be ultra small so that whe three layers (fabric can be bulky) are used for the skirt and waistband, then she will look filled out in her clothes just like a slim-ish girl is who happens to be in the normal range of weight. I did sew and knit for her, but the original Mattel clothes had hand sewn hems, linings, hand-picked zippers, unbelievable details. It would be interesting to compare the workmanship between the clothes from the early 1960's and today's limited edition designer clothes.MarilynBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11064845345645796153noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20705637.post-87916650826488603982013-08-20T21:15:19.667-04:002013-08-20T21:15:19.667-04:00I so loved my Barbie. Barbie inspired me to sew fashion. No other doll did that. I got past the dolly stage and starting sewing my fashion mockups after looking at Vogue magazines. I did this till I was fourteen and then started seriously sewing for myself. I miss my Barbie. I did have a Vogue Jill and her little sister, Ginny. However, that Coach Barbie is wonderful and may make my Christmas list too. I collect and sew for reproduction French dolls, Bleuette. She was sold in France from 1905-1960 and her voluminous wardrobe is a peek into French fashion through those years. There are over 1000 patterns - all in French - and the company eventually went to commercially made garments too. I love sewing for them, especially when I can find vintage fabric - scarce in my area, sadly. I do my sewing for them by hand because it is so peaceful. Translating the patterns, not no peaceful sometimes. She had yellow hair in a ponytail, a black-and-white striped bathing suit, blue eyeshadow and weirdly shaped feet. When my own darling daughter was old enough to trust with the tiny shoes and accessories, I tried to buy her dolls in many skin and hair colors. But, in north central Indiana, my planned purchase was prevented by the sales clerk: She removed the black Barbie I had chosen from the counter, tossing it into the "returns" bin by her feet, and refused to sell it to me. I never shopped at that store again. I should have complained to the manager, but I fear it would have been a useless action on my part. Sigh.<br />LinBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15999430801003441981noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20705637.post-15079140969959819772013-08-20T11:08:35.237-04:002013-08-20T11:08:35.237-04:00I have all the I Love Lucy barbies. Like most everybody else, I too started sewing for Barbie and a child and still do from time to time. I still have my first Barbie from 1962! I probably have more than 50. None are in the original boxes because I like to make them new outfits and display them. I haven't displayed any since I moved four years ago but now that you have planted the seed, I'm going to put some on display in my sewing room ASAP. BTW I did receive the fabric and have already gifted some to a friend.
