Vogue 8137 - A Beginning

Today I started working on the red doubleknit - constructing the jacket from Vogue 8137:

I pulled this from Vogue's website...this pattern is now out of print...but I have to tell you that if this was the cover of the pattern envelope I probably wouldn't have bought it! *LOL* My envelope has a totally different colorway and model on it!  ETA:  The website now shows the same picture that I've replaced with a copy of the pattern I have on-hand.

Nevertheless, I got the shell sewn together and the lining all cut out! I'm loving the painted fabric!!!

A pic of the jacket shell on Lulu:

I have plans next weekend so I don't know if I will get back to this anytime soon...hopefully before Christmas...but who knows because I still have Christmas sewing to do!!!

Also I need a little help...below is a picture of the buttons that I'm auditioning...please take a moment and tell me which ones you prefer. Let's call them 1-4, left to right, okay!

Have a great week!

  1. It is all personal preference isn't it? I like 3 too.
Happy you got to sew. I had to move my sewing school over the weekend while being sick...not fun.
    Enjoy your sewing moments!

  2. I like #4. They seem to have bit of white in them, right?

  3. I like #4 best for my choice. Love the painted look of the lining fabric. Good Job!

  4. I love number 3. Can't wait to see the end result.

  5. I voted three, before I saw the other posts even....Although if 4 does have a bit of white....and you could add a touch of gold to the lining....ah well it could go on forever, no?

  6. I'm going for #3. Love what you do with your sewing.

  7. My first thought was #4, but then I started really liking #1. g

  8. One is definitely my favourite, they're the ones with the most military feel, as opposed to fancy jacket feel.... sorry that probably only makes sense in my mind :)

  9. Mmm, depends on what look you are going for. I think however, I like 4 best.

  10. No 3 for my vote - I love your painted lining fabric and look forward to seeing this finished.

  12. This is going to be a gorgeous jacket with that special lining. Love what you did to that. Good pattern too.
And I'm voting for button no. 3

  13. I fell in love with your jacket on the dress form and it looks wonderful so far even without the buttons. I guess my vote would be #3 button. I was so excited that I was able to purchase the pattern on ebay as I really love its classic simplicity. I think it could reinvent itself over and over in different fabrics. Your painted lining is awesome btw and I am one who wants the whole box of crayons also stash wise. mssewcrazy

  14. Sign me up for #3 (but, with a little persuading, I could go for #4).

  15. What a wonderful project! I love your painted lining. Button #1 catches my eye. Do you think there is anymore of that red wool doubleknit available?

    Make it work! LOL!

  18. I'm thinking if you want something more like military than #1... but I really like #3 the best! And to be really honest... #1 isn't all that military either! Sorry... guess it's all up to you isn't it! LoL... fat lot of good I am!
What fun, painted fabric... it's like that game where you swirl all over the page with a pencil and then fill it in with different colors! Oh, and by the by... I want the entire box of crayons too! My fabric is my stash cause I would rather go dig thru it then go back to the fabric store some days! I tell my girls to come shop at "Moms Fabric Shop"... but they have to be careful... there are lots of pieces that I will not let them have!

  19. Absolutely no doubts that whichever one you pick will be fabulous - tho' #1 jumped out at me.

  20. I vote for number 3 hands down!

  21. Three is a bit too shiney gold for my taste. I love four. The red jacket would make a very nice Christmas outfit.

  22. The bigger, the better as far as buttons go. Can't tell if they're all the same size or not.

  23. I like #3 or #4. That is a great pattern and I love the red fabric.

  24. I vote for #3. Second choice would be #1.
    That's a glorious color red!

  25. Button #4, followed by button #3.

  26. My vote would be #3, then #1. I actually have the #1 buttons and was looking for something to use them on, but the way your jacket is going (at least so far), I'd say #3.

Can't tell you how much I love your painted lining. It just shows how far you're willing to go to get the perfect result.

  27. My vote is #3 or #4, but if #4 buttons are larger then I think they'd be my choice.

  28. I'm going to swim upstream here.
What about matching self covered buttons, like on this Fendi jacket? Hold mouse over pic for detail. There are so many jackets out there this year with self covered buttons that look so classy.

  29. I like buttons #3 or #4. I probably would have skipped that pattern too, maybe given it a second chance with the line drawings.

  30. I like button 4 with the red. Good luck with the choice; it's a hard one!

  31. At first, I liked 4. Then I decided 3 had the basketweave effect I liked without the white lacquer. Yeah, I like 3!

  32. Hope you had a blessed holiday. I see you've been busy!

  33. dropping by to say happy LATE thanksgiving lol

  34. Casting my vote for #3, no question. K

  35. I love the texture of #4. I think that they would really pop on that red jacket!!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. #3 gets my vote, but from the comments you might have to do one of each, lol.

  37. I'm on Team 3, too. I think those will look great with it.

  38. 4 and then 1 for me, but I prefer a whiter gold to a yellower gold.

  41. 3 was my definite choice, even before reading the other posts. I can see # 1 if you want that military, sharp look. It just depends on what you're looking for.
