It's been a long week...

Is it just me or do the days get longer at the end of the year?  But only during the week...not the weekend?!  On the weekend those days seem to fly by at sonic speed!...*sigh*

Anyway, it's cold as the North Pole here...and that means I'm staying inside!  Ummmm sewing here we come!  Also, I finally got my eyeglass situation resolved.  I don't know if anyone noticed but in the pic of the girls night on the town...I was wearing new specs...Progressive Lens.  The new way to say bifocals and old eyes!

Well I've now had these new specs for a month...finally got used to them...but can't read or sew in them AT ALL!  Short bursts at the machine but nothing prolonged like I usually do.  However, they were great at the Knicks game last week...I saw stuff I would have never seen with my old pair!  After one more trip to Lenscrafters, I purchased a pair of reading glasses...this should make the short distance things work out better.

So wanna see glasses ~ well I'm sharing anyway!  *LOL*

The progressive lenses:

The pair just for distance:

The pair for reading and up close work:

Hopefully this will result in the Burda skirts being finished and a new dress (I know I said it's the North Pole here but I love a new dress!) idea that's been swirling around in my head.  Finally what was I thinking about when I talked about making Christmas Gifts...yeah...I can never sew for the season and it will be so much better for the economy if I just make a list and head on out to the stores...yeah, I think I will do that next week!  *LOL*

...as always, more later!

  1. North Pole doesn't even begin to describe that cold. I actually *jogged* from my office to the train station this evening, the wind was so bitterly chilly. Brrrrrr! I still thawing out!!

  2. I'm with you on needing specs just for close up work. The progressive thing does not work for me at all.

  3. I love all of them, especially since that means you can see! When you first posted about getting used to the new glasses, I was nodding my head in agreement.

Have a great sewing weekend and try to stay warm.

  5. I too need new glasses. I just haven't "felt like" doing close work or reading much! Funny how something like this can change one's personality almost.
Youre lucky you look great in specs, and the 'do is nice too

  6. Oh, I identify! Your glasses look great! I turned fifty and went blind, apparently. I have reading glasses, distance sunglasses (a miracle, I see stop signs I hadn't noticed in ages..) and progressive bifocals. Actually my vision isn't that bad, I can see everything perfectly as long as it is between 3 and 5 feet away. Welcome to middle age! K

  7. Add to that computer glasses for middle distances. My DH, who has worn glasses since he was 6, and bifocals since his mid-30s clued me into those. Saves craning your neck to see through the reading lens. We keep ours in their cases next to the computer. And I agree with the comments about the hair, you look terrific.

  9. I have a wardrobe of glasses for different purposes, too.
I gave up on the progressives after only a week. This makes me reconsider. Maybe I should have given myself more time to adapt.
    hmmmmm!
I agree with you on the weather- perfect weather for sewing!

  10. I'm with you on needing different glasses, I have a wardrobe too, although I do use my progressives most of the time. I have distance only glasses which I need for going to the symphony or a baseball game as we are usually high enough up that I am trying to look at the stage/field through the reading portion of my "regular' glasses and it makes me very dizzy and blind.

And I have a pair of reading glasses that I don't need for reading, but which I do need to work in my sewing room. They stay there next to my pins and scissors. I sorely missed them during sewing week in NYC.

    Stay warm.

  11. Not expecting it will but hope it warms up a bit. I'm finally heading down to the city this week. Taking Amtrak this time rather than driving down to pick up Metro. Thanks to Lindsay we might have some good maps and info for fabric shopping. When you're not too busy I'd love your take on M. Obama's Oslo wardrobe particularly the gray ribbon skirted dress and incredible jacket. I forget if I read who the designer was. Just gorgeous.

  12. Those look great on you! Now why don't you use one of those photos as your profile pic, instead of the Miss Shyness pose that is so un-you.

  13. No making Christmas presents here, either; too few people appreciate the time and effort put into them. I've been working my buns off trying to get the Christmas shopping thing under control...if the economy isn't recovering, don't blame me!

  14. The glasses look great! And btw, you've got to be one of the most youthful looking grandmothers I 'know'.

  15. The glasses are great, and you look fabulous! How nice to see your smiling face in my blogfeed... and I had to comment, because I can't believe the comment above that you are a grandmother -- you look so youthful, it's hard to believe you're anyone's grandma. :)

  16. It's been brutally cold today, never getting over 15º and quite breezy. After Dec. 21, the days will start getting longer. Yippee! I am facing bifocals very soon. Whatever, I just want to see better.

  17. Good for you! Progressive lenses nevr did work for me. I had to go back to the blended bifocal for my new specs! Seeing what we sew is top priority, after all!...lol

  19. You know, what they do is make all the progressives alike without knowing what it is that people really do. I finally made Lenscrafters make mine the way I wanted. I needed a little distance at the top so I could see students at the office door, etc., I needed a great big middle part for driving, the computer, sewing, knitting, middle distance and then a small, but wider reading bottom. Finally!! But it was not a pleasant journey.

    Good luck!

  20. You look good in the new glasses. I also have progressives, I don't recall having much problem getting used to them, other than stairs. My last pair (also LensCrafters) had to be remade. The distance was great, but as things got closer, the focal point was such that if I wanted to look at something with my right eye, I had to put the item to my left, and vice versa for my left eye. They didn't understand, until I took their sample reading card and showed them. It doesn't take them being out of position by much to make it uncomfortable to read or sew for more than a few minutes. In fact, I tell my optometrist "I need new close-ups, I'm just looking at pictures again". I still look over/under the lenses, or just take them off to do close work though. I'm extremely near sighted, so it's like using a magnifier for me.

Mountain Thyme, I had no idea that the different areas could be customized for size!
