A Quick Diary Bit on a Saturday Afternoon

My daughters remind me consistently that I keep saying that I'm not going to purchase any more fabric...and then another box shows up! *LOL*  However, today, I'm going to share with you something I just found on Emmaonesock and I hope that you get some too...well if you want some that is!

First a little background on the purchase.  Target like H&M have guest designers create affordable pieces for their stores.  Initially I tried to purchase some of these pieces but I don't have the kind of lifestyle that allows me to haunt their websites either waiting for the garments to appear or being annoyed because they don't come in plus sizes.  Cause dontcha know that haunting major retailers sites is just not the same as haunting fabric sites! *LOL*

Anyway, I've loved the pictures of the Target Liberty of London sheath dresses that have been featured in print ads in all of the spring magazines.  So instead of going the route of trying to purchase one from Target, I decided that if I "stumbled" upon a Liberty print, that I would buy it instead and make my own dress.  Well, I've stumbled...

Emmaonesock has some pretty awesome prints on her site.  This one followed me home:

So go over and check them out and see if any want to come home with you!

I haven't started to sew yet...probably because I haven't determined what I want to make...but I'm sure I will have something to either talk about or share with you later...

  3. I love this idea! It's gorgeous fabric and it's a much better idea than stalking retail stores. And I'm sure the fit will be better if you make it anyway. Not to mention the construction and detailing. Can't wait to see the creation you come up with!

  4. Oooooh, the Liberty Tana lawn fabrics sure do look lovely, but it's a little rich for my blood (this from a woman who recently bought six yards of Chanel wools from Gorgeous Fabrics). I'm sure you'll come up with a lovely outfit with your fabric! BTW, I visited Liberty's store in London last summer and was VERY sad to see how their fabric section has diminished in size . . . I remember that it used to take up practically a whole floor, but now it seems to be crammed into a corner with a very limited selection of fabrics.

  5. I saw that fabric and was thinking about making a skirt which would fit in with my gray fabrics. By the time, I get paid it will be gone. So I will be glad to see what you make with it.

  6. There are very few Liberty prints that I like, but this one is lovely. In a sheath dress this will look very nice. I bought a pair of grey patent leather pumps last winter that would go with this fabric. Now I'm starting to plan an outfit ...

  7. Is this a lawn? Most of the Liberty fabrics that I have seen in the US have been lawns which are fairly lightweight. Are you going to line/underline this? It's a lovely fabric but I wonder if it has the weight needed for a sheath dress. It is beautiful fabric.

  9. I LOVE that fabric! I was eyeing it on EOS along with all the other wonderful new fabrics Linda has been buying. I can't wait to see what you do with it. A dress?

  12. I'm happy to hear that I'm not the only one that has been enamored with the Liberty of London ads. I'm trying to decide if I want to buy some of their fabric to make one of the jersey up top/cotton on the bottom dresses. This post might have finally pushed over. :)

Love the color of the fabric you chose. So pretty.

  13. Gorgeous fabric! Now, you've tempted me to take a look when I said that I wasn't going to buy anymore fabric. When I look, fabric somehow jumps into my cart!

  14. Call me crazy but I really am stalking Target. I've been waiting to get my hands on that dress and possibly the raincoat and wellies for a while now. Why? Because I don't want to cut into the one piece of Liberty fabric in my stash (LOL!). Plus, I'm waiting for the comforters (they are wicked hard to make yourself -- I still haven't finished my coverlet). I do love your fabric and, as such, will not be visiting EOS for fear of some additional fabric following me home

  15. I'm with Christy, I have such a hard time cutting into my Liberty stash. I went nuts in 1984 in the London Sales when the the dollar was about $1.10 to the pound. I did make a few smocked dresses and a beautiful draped silk dress for a wedding, but I have a lot of Tana lawn, Jubilee cloth (80% cotton 20% wool), and Varuna wool aging in my stash - which also includes Liberty prints I inherited from my MIL.

I can see they are now making the Tana lawn in a wider width, so the price makes a bit more sense. I would think Tana lawn would need to be underlined to make a sheath dress. It works great for smocked dresses and blouses. But best of all, it lasts forever.
