Enough with the anonymous comments...

If you have something to say to me about any critique that I give on services provided to me by a company, please have the dignity to sign your comment.  Do not hide behind anonymous.  And if anyone is in doubt of my facts regarding the service received, I saved the email chain which I will be happy to reprint.

I used no names of company employees.  I did not mis-state any of the facts.  But I was extremely unhappy with the service provided for the product I received.  Last I checked that was not a crime or an offense for which I can be sued.

There is a simple way to solve this...I can turn off anonymous comments and then the cowardly can either sign their names or go away.  YOU are making this a bigger issue than it needs to be...because I said what I had to say and I was moving on.  If you, "anonymous" thinks that So Vintage provides a great service, then write your own blog post about it...but as of now...there are no more anonymous commenters allowed on my blog!

Say it proud, say it loud or don't say it at all!

  2. I saw one of the comments on that post about Slapp Suits to keep bloggers from giving bad references - what ever happened to free speech if it's true??? Anonymous comments tick me off.

  3. I see nothing wrong with not allowing anonymous comments- If you can't attach your name to your words, then you probably shouldn't be saying them! And there is absolutely nothing wrong with sharing a personal experience with a vendor, positive or negative!

  4. Well said! I don't care much for anonymous comments, either. I've considered blocking anonymous comments after a few "silly" comments. I haven't done it yet, but it's always an option.

  5. There should be a holiday gift under the tree for Anonymous. When they show up to claim it, oh boy. They can have it! ; ) lol

Although I've only got a couple nasty comments in the years I've blogged, I always moderate. I find it easier than discovering something later.

  6. Amen to that sister! It isn't slander if it's true (sayeth my dad, the attorney). Anonymous snarks are tools of the cowardly. MHO. K

  7. Carolyn, I'm a long time reader, first time commenter. Your blog is a great resource and most of all, it is Yours! Please continue to blog your honest opinions and do not be silenced by those reveling in the anonymity of the internet.

  8. I'm surprised that anyone allows anonymous comments on their blog posts! But I would caution you, my dear . . . a very close friend of mine was sued for a post he made about someone on his blog. Granted, it was a rather inflammatory comment (much much harsher than anything you've ever said or probably will ever say), but there was a lot of truth in his post. The lawsuit will hopefully eventually be dismissed (it's gone on for years), but in the meantime it's cost him tens of thousands of dollars. I hope that you've at least taken a look at "bloggers insurance" to protect yourself against such nuisances.

  10. I'm with you, Carolyn. I had to turn the moderation on on my blog for a while. On a sewing blog, of all things!! Who knew people could be so nuts?

  11. Well, I think we all know who the anonymous commenter was. Frankly, if "anonymous" wants to be a biotch, she should at least have the cojones to identify herself. Hellooooo, we aren't that stupid here.

  12. I am with you! While I have never shopped that site, you have the right to voice your opinions on YOUR blog! Don't let the "anonymous" comments get you down! They are probably just jealous of you awesome sewing skills anyways! :)

  13. Ok. What'd I miss?

My stinking internet has been off for 2 days!

  14. Yours is one of the blogs that makes my day. I admire your honesty and join those who've figured out that "anonymous" in anything but poetry from centuries past is simple cowardice. Keep on keepin' on. Can't wait to see the pics of your architectural dress.

  15. Good for you. I don't belive that stating your own personal experience can be considered slander. Stick to your guns. Your personal experience and opinion is just as valid as any other person's experience and opinion. Bad service deserves to be exposed. BTW with my itty bitty following, I too had to turn off posts for a while. I do not allow anon. My opinion is, if you're going to say it, be proud to own it. If you can't, then don't say it at all.

  16. You're soooo right, put a name on it, certainly if you say something that is not just a friendly comment. I was sorry to read about your experience with the vendor and you have a right to say it.

  17. Well the silly thing is 'anonymous' has given themselves away simply by their comments! Who would want to do business with someone with that kind of attitude. What would have made more sense would have been to use this blog to apologise for the unacceptably poor service Insist the problem has been rectified (i.e find a scapegoat) and then offer you a free pattern (or whatever) by way of compensation. That is good business sense as well as good customer sevice.

  18. Sometimes the truth hurts. I don't blame you for pushing the button and stopping anonymous comments.

  19. I'm so sorry you are being hit at by "mean spirited" people.
About 6 months ago, I found your blog in need of some inspiration...and have enjoyed the (essence of you) as you tackle each piece sewn! I've learned so much!
Again, I hope that you will have super amount of strength to focus in on a whole lot of us out there that love and enjoy your blog..and NOT the one handful of blogging cowards.
    Keep being real!!

  20. Hooray and well said!
I don't see what anyone can complain about from your post. You were just sharing your experience with the vendor and you're just as entitled to share the bad as the good!

  21. I love to read your blog, it refreshes me when I don't know what to do when the pattern does not fit well. I love all the dresses you make. Keep up your sewing. We love you.:)

  22. Amen!

There's an old saying that an unsatisfied customer will tell 10 of her friends and a satisfied customer will bring 3 of her friends to do business with you.

You are a genuinely thoughtful and smart person who has shown through her writings that she plays fair and expects the world to do the same. I think So Vintage made a mistake, didn't own up to it, didn't realize the caliber of person they were dealing with (you're not some wierdo) and forgot the basic customer service rule: The customer is always right.

Hang in there and keep sewing (by the way, I love the pleated dress!)

  23. There's no need for anonymous comments. Heck, we all "know" each other in the great community that is sewers on the internet. It's your blog and you can do what you like. Please...keep blogging though. I'm quiet, but when I get the chance I love reading your posts! So inspirational and fun!

  24. Wow! I went away for a couple of days and I guess I missed a lot! I allow anonymous comments, because some of my friends don't have or want to set up blogger ID's. But I also moderate comments. I think that discourages nasty comments more than disallowing anonymous posters. Once they find out their comments won't see the light of day without approval, the trolls go away.

  26. Go Caroline!
I had the same experience with a book seller who was part of a larger book site. They lied, said the book had been shipped a month before and then had to confess they never even had the book as it was out of stock. I informed the main book dealer and they asked for all the emails I had received and they would make sure this never happened again as it was their good name being sullied.
Telling the truth works and moves things along. If people can't leave their name with comments...then they can keep quiet!

  27. Right on sister! Oh my did I just reveal my age. Seriously, your opinion is yours, if someone doesn't agree, oh well they should blog on their own site and leave your's alone. I look forward to reading your blog often, eventhough I may not leave a comment. Keep up the great work and giving us the 411 on all things sewing!
