I'm unsure...

I don't know if my ideas for the V8666 dress will work.  I don't know if I actually like the muslin dress that much.  Everytime I look at the pictures I don't see sleek, carefree and casualsexykewl.  I see, fidgety, stuffy and weird looking.  I'm not sure that changing the fabric will make a difference...but I don't know what to do next.

I could wear my navy blue dress from the SWAP collection:

or I have a lacy ankle length skirt that I could pair with a new top:

or I could try starting all over again with new fabric:

I bought this navy blue silk crepe and coordinating lace with sequins today in the garment district.  I'm thinking I might go in an entirely different direction because I do still have this weekend and a few evenings next week...but I don't want to rush...and I'm not feeling very inspired...*sigh*  I'm just not sure...

...more later!

  1. I'm sure whatever you decide on will be fabulous! I made V1207 to wear last Friday night and ended up making two totally different pieces and wore them instead lol. I hope to wear my Vogue dress Sunday night lol.

    Good luck! :)

  2. I think that your muslin is pretty, but just not "special" enough for this "special" occasion. I love your new fabric! Give it a try....but, I agree with Adrienne...whatever you decide it will all be fabulous!

  3. My suggestions:

    1) New dress;

    2) Navy dress with nice accessories.

  4. I can see already that you're gonna conflicting suggestions. ;)

Hmmm.. The navy dress, as is, doesn't seem quite special enough. But perhaps with the perfect snazzy accessories and shoes. ;)

That skirt is really beautiful, but it will require a new top.

That new fabric is nice, but I would only go that route if you had a design that excites you. No point in making something you are less than enthused about.

Pick whatever direction feels the most fun and exciting.

Not much help, I know. ;)

  5. I think the skirt has some possibilities...now go to bed!

  6. The navy SWAP dress is Gorgeous. The lace skirt is Gorgeous. Your new fabric is To Die For- honestly, I want to move from my paradise home in Cairns Australia to New York just so I can buy those fabrics. Whichever you choose, you are going to look like a goddess so just enjoy being you.

  7. I think you are right - if you don't love the muslin, you probably won't love it in your new fabric. How about a TNT dress in the new fabric? You are so good at cutting and blocking your TNT.

  8. I like that skirt, and with a new top (you are a fast sewer) you will look sensational!

  9. The skirt looks great, it's sleek and give off a bit of sexy. Get a fabulous top, Check Adrienne latest post. A sequinced top with a low back, hair and make-u.

  10. Whatever you decide on - make sure that you are well rested so that you can enjoy the party. ...and remember that nobody else's opinion matters but your own. Close you eyes, envision yourself, then go from there.

  11. I'm gonna be the lone voice in the wilderness here, but, that's me... Your sister's party is intended to be a BASH, right? How about stepping out of your comfort zone a bit and doing something completely different? Check out Queen Latifah's dress in "Chicago" (You Tube has the video of her doing "If You're Good to Mama")

Maybe you don't want to go to quite such an extreme, but she's wearing an off the shoulder dress that is cut to THERE and it's amazing on her. Personally, I want the undergarments they used for it! LOL

Formal doesn't have to mean black. Maybe there are elements of QL's dress that you could make your own to get that crazysexykewl vibe you're looking to have. Maybe a well-placed brooch, or a lovely, slinky, silky fabric will do it for you.

I love the black skirt you have, so maybe a nice silky shirt with some sexy details would be just the pop that skirt needs. I hope you do check out the video, if only for some ideas to make your own.

  12. You are an excellent seamstress and know you own fitting needs from years of experience. If the Vogue 8666 feels "off" to you then trust your instincts. Do not recut it in to-die-for material because when that awesome fabric is done and the dress gives you the same "off" feeling - you are going to be mad. If dresses aren't inspiring you right now, how about making a killer jacket or accessory for a dress you already have. And some really hot saucy heels, of course. ;)

  13. I adore that navy dress, but whatever you decide will be simply stunning, I'm sure!

  14. I love the skirt; the slit and fabric make it really special. My suggestion is a cream or white top with special jewelry (either pearls for the classy elegant look or sparkle for a party time look). I know you don't want to outshine your sister but that is going to be hard!

  15. The skirt, definitely the skirt. THAT is sleek and sexy, for sure.

  16. I kinda agree with you. Here's an idea: wear the beautiful navy blue SWAP dress, and splurge on a pair of killer silver strappy platform heels to wear with it. That'll give you the new, special feeling you want.

  17. I like the idea of the skirt with a lovely top as well as the navy blue silk crepe which is beautifull!!

  18. Hmmhhh ... i think the muslin looks nice and the fabric will make a change to the overall look of it. BUT if you don't fell the dress, don't invest so much of your precious time in a design you just like and don't love.

  19. I say no to the long skirt. It's good for a formal occasion but not sexy enough for a blow-out party. Plus, won't you be dancing? Anyway, I suggest you look at some fashion magazines to spur your creativity and start picturing yourself in some v-necked sexy thing that shows off your legs. Don't go low-key, go Vixen!

  20. Since you don't have a lot of time, I went and looked at your Flickr album to see if you there was a dress that you had made that fits your needs. For a sleek, carefree and sexy, I like the shoulder princess seam dress that you did for the Midnight at the Oasis swap. That dress shows off your waist and hips. You can change the neckline to a deep V to show off some cleavage. Think about adding a single gore to the back seam to give the dress some swish when you walk. Good luck

  21. The muslin dress in grey or beige would be fab. The dress is actually very cute, but not for the event.

The new fabric is very nice

    Peace

  22. I think that the bodice and skirt look great, but there is something off about the sleeves. Can you see what they would look like a little shorter? I think that the sleeves might be ending at the wrong part of your arm. Can you pin some horizontal tucks along the sleeve to see what it looks like?

I love the and hem detail.

  23. there is a dress and jacket on your Flickr page made from your tnt pattern. The jacket and the skirt are black and the bodice is white with black circles. I have never seen this on your page before but it is gorgeous! I can totally see this in a the black skirt with a really dressy embellished fabric for the bodice and then coordinate the jacket. It's just a thought!

  24. sorry, the jacket is dotted too! I guess that I can't trust my memory anymore!! What was the jacket pattern that you used? If you don;t mind then I would like to copy this in my own fabrics!

  25. Hmmm. Well, if you're feeling frumpalicious in the muslin, you know how you're going to feel at the party. If you're going to make something and wear it with pride, go for something that you're totally in love with. That said, I really like the long black lace skirt. Pair that with a fabulous black top - or even a very simple one, tons of pearls and some fabulous shoes.

  26. Dear Carolyn,
Hope you regain inspiration soon! Consider the possibility that you may be experiencing creativity block because you are trying to create something that is below your usual standards of fabulosity (…something that you won't upstage your sister?)Even though it’s very sweet of you to have such consideration towards your sis perhaps thoughts of her feeling outshined by you are greatly exaggerated. Please consider that maybe it’s OK to be yourself and let her be proud of your talent and popularity.( As long as you don't show up as the Bobsy twins!) LOL

  27. I'm sorry your dress didn't work the way you wanted it to...but I love that lace skirt! Whatever you choose will be wonderful...you are such an inspiration to me to not settle for almost! I am getting better with fitting and finishing, thanks to you!
