...a picture from my front door after they've plowed the sidewalks...because this is as far as I'm going...
...I am snow weary and they are predicting an inch tomorrow - 2 to 3" on Saturday and more snow on Tuesday...anyone in a sunshiny, warm and snowless state looking for a sewing companion...cause I'm so snow weary!
Oh you poor DC folk (how I wish you could send it all our way - us skiers looooove such quantities of the beautiful white stuff). But you know the silver lining, right, Carolyn? a free sewing day, mwahahahahah!
ReplyDeleteWow! My kids would be so jealous.They want a snow day so bad! For Chicago, it takes a heap of snow in the middle of the night like you just had to cancel anything! Some winter in the east!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I read your previous post. Try Burda. I am not a fan for tracing the patterns...But I have to say that I have found a few TNT jacket and skirt patterns (no luck with blouses and dresses, as of yet). It is a lot of work the first time. You spend so much time fine tuning the pattern piece that you are left with a great fitting garment. And so much easier to make up again. The pivot/slide method for increasing a Burda pattern has worked well for me.
Oh girl, come to Texas and teach me your mad skills!! We don't know what snow is around here, and it's been in the 70s by the afternoon.
ReplyDeleteC - I do not envy you as far as the snow. Ugh I heard about the additional snow coming our way. Enjoy the day and I am sure we will see another beautiful creation from you. I am one of the few in my office today. I wish I was hope doing some sewing/knitting.
ReplyDeleteWow..you got a lot more than I did up here in NW Connecticut! I wish the complex I lived in cleaned up as well as yours though! Mine is always a mess! I don't mind being stuck inside..it just means I get to sleep late instead of getting up early to drive my son to the bus and I get to sew or cook to my hearts content without as many interruptions from my younger girls. They get easily entertained by their big brother! :) Enjoy it while you can..take the time to read a good book with a cup of tea or cocoa!
ReplyDeleteI've been following the northeast weather fiasco on the weather channel. The snow looks beautiful on TV from where I am in north Florida, but I can't imagine trying to get around in it & dealing with it day after day! Our highs have been in the 60s, but we're supposed to be near 70 this weekend. I'd invite you south, but it looks like your airports are shut down, too!
ReplyDeleteWell, as much as I'd like to help you out, I'm afraid it's no good. I just spent 2.5 hours cleaning my driveway and walk. And that was WITH a (woefully inadequite) snow blower. Then it pooped out near the end and I had to finish by hand. So much for sewing today. I'm too tired to climb the stairs to my sewing room.
ReplyDeleteI live in Overland Park Kansas we do have snow on the ground but not near as much as you have. It will be high 40's to low 50's this weekend! I would love a sewing buddy! Come on over!

ReplyDeleteThere are few things I hate more than snow. I wish I had maintenance people to shovel and plow for me. The front side walk isn't so bad. But digging out my car is a major, major pain. I dug out the car and got stuck in the driveway!!!! Grrrr! But, I'm letting myself get upset again. Slow, deep breaths.

At least you don't have to dig out a car Miss Carolyn. I am not far from you down in Sayreville and I am so over this snow it is not even funny. It snowed yesterday morning and then again last night. I am just going to get under the blanket and stay here for the rest of the day.

You've got lots more snow that we do up here in Toronto this year. Wow! At least they plowed your sidewalks so you don't feel completely snowbound. I hope your daughter's work kept the heat on all night or she'll be ice right through today.
ReplyDeleteAbout your previous post: I've been buying vintage patterns on eBay mostly. I can get half size (short waisted, petite) which I have to make longer in large sizes if I look. I figured my grandmother, her sisters and most of the cousins were what you'd call petite plus these days, and they made clothes so there had to be patterns somewhere. Of course, I like vintage, so that works for me.
I think you're doing a great job making your own patterns. I used to buy only Vogue because they fit and I liked the fashion forward styles. Now, even for small sizes, Vogue is nothing special for the most part since McCalls bought them. Where did all the good designers go? I'm odd one out as Burda plus sizes just don't do it for me. I like the Knipmode Dutch patterns, but most aren't really office wear.
Oh goodness, Carolyn. It looks like a typical Chicago snow storm. Snow Weary = Sew Day.

ReplyDeleteI am far enough north that I only got an inch in this storm, but we've had plenty this year already and I have several feet of snow on the ground and it doesn't appear to be going anywhere. We've had fresh snow, or ice, 8 of the last 10 days, and I am expecting more snow 4 of the next 5 days. At least my arms are getting in admirable shape.

Oh Carplyn m kiddos would have loved it about now. We haven't had one snow day yet. Like Cindy said it takes a load like that in the middle of the night to get one here in WI. All we keep getting are these little 2 inch or less dustings. My kids have gone sledding less than a half a dozen times. Would love to get an inpumpto sewing day.

ReplyDeleteok you're not going to want to hear this, but I love your photos because we are absolutely sweltering here in Sydney and the thought of staying cosy and warm inside is much more appealing than trying to stay cool! Plus I've never experienced that much snow so it would be exciting, although I appreciate it would get tiresome after a while
