A quick knit skirt that packs some punch!

I bought this remnant from JoMars when I was on the great fabric shopping trip with Shams, Peggy and Noile earlier this year.  It was just a scrap that I found on the table across from the cutting table where I was rooting around while waiting for my fabric to be cut.  I thought it would make a great top and I totally forgot about it until I found it mixed amongst the lace trimmings that I bought yards and yards of  during the trip.

Seriously this took about an hour and a half to sew up and only that long because I got it into my head to add a tricot lining to the knit.  You know me...if it needs to be complicated count on me to complicate it up!  *LOL*

Stats:

Fabric:
Knit Remnant that's kinda embossed

Notions:
1 yard of 1" non roll elastic
Tricot knit lining

Construction:
Baste the lining fabric to the knit.
Serge finish the edges.
Sew the back seam and press it open.
Press down a 1.5" casing for the elastic.
Thread the elastic through the casing and smooth it out.
Finish off the casing seam.
Done!  Try on skirt!
Oh and I didn't bother to hem it.  It has the serged edge and you can't even tell...the stripes hide the finishing or lack of one!

This skirt was so quick and easy and packed such a punch!  Even my daughters loved it...especially the younger one who rarely likes what I make. She's 21 and funky & edgy in what she wears.

...a back view...

...a view of the skirt on the hanger...

I love how this works and from a remnant piece of fabric too!

...as always more later!

  1. Love your skirt. I have a few knit skirts in my wardrobe like yours that I wear all the time. Sometimes the quick and easy things are the best.

  2. Love the skirt! Just happened upon your blog via this post and I love so many of the dresses you've made, I wish I had your talent.

But those pointy little peep toes look so painful, it makes me wince! I would love to see you wearing a chunkier heel, I think they look awesome. Sorry if that comes out as insulting your taste, because that's the last thing I want to do, I just look at shoes that like and my own feet ache, lol!

  4. I love this skirt. I would not ever have thought about using the stripes horizontal, but it looks great! Love it when an inspiration comes together!
I just culled a bunch of the blogs from my Google reader, it is so hard not to have too much time sucked down the computer, but your posts are always some of my favorites. Thanks for sharing.

  11. Fabulous! And such a bonus to be able to get it from a remnant piece of fabric.

  12. Nice, Carolyn!! Hey that tricot lining is worth the extra effort. When I am in a rush, I skip that step and wear a slip. Now, I am finding out that my slip causes static cling - but my tricot lined dresses don't have that problem at all. I guess it's that particular slip, but it is maddening!

    Great skirt!

  45. Carolyn :
Could you please let me know the pattern that you use for your TNT pants. I would love to be able to make myself a pair. Also have you sourced the special elastic that was recommended by Nancy Z.

  47. You placed the dark bands in this skirt absolutely perfectly, Carolyn. They emphasize the narrower portions of your curves and make you look sizzlin'. You should wear this skirt every other day. :)
