Sooooo...nuthin!

This is the longest I've gone without sewing in a very long time without being sick or swamped at work.  Since neither of those things are going on in my life right now...I'm a little lost.

I've unpacked most of my boxes, and of course I've found something else missing...my box of zippers.  I was pretty devastated when I realized they were gone...which makes no dayum sense since I tripped down to the garment district and bought quite a few more...  I think it was just the left over packing/moving/unpacking fever that caused me to overreact.  I know I can't replace what was in the box but I've bought more and that hurdle has been crossed...but still no desire to sew.

Another thing I knew but just wasn't facing was how many patterns I own.  Now I have to figure out a storage solution for them 'cause the one I was using (haphazardly placing them anywhere) didn't translate well to my new sewing room - *LOL*  You would think sorting through vintage and newly released patterns would jumpstart my sewing mojo...NOPE!  Its still vacaying...

Okay, so enough moaning about that...I'm sure you all read Cidell's blog, Miss Cellie's Pants...and if you don't you really should, because she makes the most interesting pieces - presently she's working on a cape for a bike ride!  Anyway, Cidell has been nominated for the Mobbies Awards and she needs our help.  It's the last three days of voting but if you go to this link, and complete the simple log in process (really it's easy, I did it in 30 seconds or less!), you can vote for Cidell in three categories:

Best DIY Blog
Best Lifestyle Blog
Best Personal Blog

But the real important vote is for Best Overall Blog...like Cidell says, wouldn't it be fantastic if a sewing blog won for Best Overall Blog!  So if you have a few minutes, would you mind following the link and voting for Cidell!

Thanks and I'm out...hopefully some sewing will be going on here again soon!

  1. Thank you for being willing to share your struggles...it makes you so human. I know that you do amazing work in the "sewing room" and it won't be long before your machine will be humming again!

  2. You're just tired and your mojo knows it. :-) I'm sure you'll get going in your new sewing digs soon. Until then, enjoy the down time.

  3. I think you must be just completely overwhelmed by the amount of work you had to do in a short time, plus facing the work still to be done. Sometimes it is all a bit much and it's good that you're taking a break instead of trying to force yourself to sew something. I've had plenty of phases like that even without a big move to trigger it. So take your time!

  4. Perhaps you're just plain tired out. You did a big move at work followed by another one at home.

Whenever I get a new sewing room, it's love/hate for the first while until I'm comfortable, can put hand to whatever I want without thinking and get the lighting just right. It's like settling into a new nest. Meantime, be good to yourself. You've done a lot of work there already.

  5. I don't understand how things just DISAPPEAR! I know you did a walk through and verified nothing was left in the apartment. Then … upack… and things are missing! Kinda makes you believe in the supernatural!

  6. Don't worry, your sewing mojo will come back. I've had this happen to me before - sometimes after a move, sometimes just after a huge stressful project. Give yourself mental room to breathe, don't try to force it. Something will hit you, inspire you, and before you know it you'll be back in the sewing mode. :)

  7. Stop beating yourself into the ground. You just went through a major move and are still going through the move. As everyone says, chill and enjoy the down time. That box of zippers is probably right before your eyes but will show up just when you go and buy one more zipper. Isn't this always the case?

  8. Good luck in finding the lost mojo! I go a little stir-crazy when I don't sew, so I'll even do something home-dec to get in front of the machine, when I'm missing some mojo. That being said, the dress I'm working on right now definitely needs me to serge the edges, and my serger has sat, unopened in it's box for the last 18(gulp!) months. So, I'm procrastinating opening the box.

  9. I agree with Debbie - you're just tired. You've had a lot going on lately - 2 moves, etc. So, enjoy the down time, cultivate your inspiration and probably on a Tuesday - inspiration will strike hard and you won't be able to do anything about it. g

  10. I think you'll be right back in the saddle when you've recovered from the move :). I just finished a month-long move and definitely empathize. I lost some patterns, fabric, and supplies in the flood that came before the move!

  11. I just voted for Citell and you are correct. It is a great blog. I have so much stuff in my storage unit, I know how it feels to not be able to find things. The biggest latest most expensive thing that has come up missing is my Helen Joseph armstrong pattern making book. Get some rest... read... be good to yourself.

  13. If it makes you feel any better, I have not sewn bupkis (garment-wise) in about a month. Out of town guests, home sewing, oh yeah and losing power for 10 days... My mojo is kickin, just don't have the time. Sigh. Hopefully this weekend.

    Best of luck unpacking!

  15. Just give it a little time...your mojo is adjusting to the new space. There's no way you'll not be sewing for long!

  16. Good luck with unpacking and settling in. I know when your mojo returns, you will be as fierce as ever. And thanks for the nomination link for Cidell.
