This dress is all about the Jason Wu fabric that I chose for it. I did add some pink piping to bring out the pink flecks in the fabric but I knew when I found it at Mood, that I was going to use my TNT dress pattern to make it.

20" metallic zipper

pink rayon bemberg lining
black rayon seam tape
pink rayon seam tape
bias binding
1/4 yard black lightweight interfacing
Construction Techniques:
All of the construction techniques are contained in this post and most of them were just to add extra touches like the exposed metal zipper and the piping.
The part I like the most is something no one can see but me, the pink lining...and look I'm wearing a belt. Seriously, peoples it's a belt around my non-existent middle...talk about photographic illusions! *LOL*

It was wonderful to work with this fabric. I ended up with a very versatile dress that can be worn alone, with a cardigan or with turtlenecks in a variety of different colors.
This was another sew that wasn't part of the CIW collection, but I loved the fabric from the start and I was too excited about it to put it on the shelf.

ReplyDeleteI love that your dress fits better than the one on the original model. Had you considered making a matching jacket (possibly at the same length as the dress) where the lining could really shine? I think it would look fantastic on you.

ReplyDeleteI absolutely love your blog and am so glad I happened upon it. How very talented you are, and what a fabulous wardrobe you have developed. I have allowed being plus-sized and perpetually hot from hot flashes, to keep me from sewing, although I do keep collecting fabrics, just all natural fiber ones now. I just keep saying "when I lose this weight" and you have shown me that regardless of whatever size I wear now, I can still look nice. I doubt I will use my silk tweeds until later (read after weight loss) but there are many fabrics on my shelves that I can use to finally wear something other than Wal-Mart knit pants and cotton tees. I am actually not going to a high school get together this weekend (class of 64) because I have nothing to wear. I too have no middle anymore, and admire your belt wearing. I especially love the very narrow one with a leash-type clip closure. You are a genius and know just what to do with fabrics. I hope someday to get to Mood and with any luck, you will be there to guide my choices.
