The New Vogue Patterns for Fall 2015

Honestly I'm as excited as the next sewist when a new pattern offering appears from BMV - but especially for the new Vogue Patterns. I long ago stopped doing reviews of the new pattern selections. However, my life has changed so the patterns I would normally purchase have changed too.

Taking that into account, here are the patterns that I put into my shopping cart to await a sale.

I'm looking at buying more separates patterns instead of the dress patterns I normally flock to...but there was this one jumper pattern that I thought I could incorporate into my new "business casual" wardrobe so this one went into the shopping bag too.

My reasoning ~
I really like the skirt pattern especially since it can be sewn with color blocking, pattern blocking or in a single color. This will be a great pattern for all three seasons (spring, summer, fall). Skirts will be a huge part of my business wardrobe going into the fall and I think this will make a wonderful addition to my closet.

The Donna Karan topper is the draw to the first pattern. It will be great as fall outerwear and during the winter as jacket over a turtleneck and jeans or slacks. A classy casual look that I can see in a sweatery/ponte fabric with pleather accents and/or sleeves.

I know the top is probably similar to a lot of the peplum-y tops that have been featured in pattern offerings in the past, but I wasn't buying top patterns then. This one is kinda different and I'm looking for separates that I can make my own with a lot of opportunities to play with colors, prints and fabrications.

There are also a few patterns from the last McCalls offering that are also in the shopping bag for the next sale. So what patterns did you like?  Or was there nothing in this offering for you?

...as always more later!

  1. Ugh. The ONLY one I liked from Vogue this time around was the bright yellow 1940s (?) reissue. I'd like to know more about it too...

  2. The only one I liked for me (loved the girls dress and jacket and the doll bed, but I don't have any young girls to sew for) were the sailor's pants. I won't buy those until I have the fit down on a basic pair of pants first.

    1. You have chosen some lovely patterns - and they will look fabulous made up! I rather like the new Marcie Tilton pattern (s) - I am enjoying making layered 'Lagenlook' clothes right now - and there are one or two here that I think will fit the bill!

  3. My friend called my attention to the fall Vogue pattern offerings early this morning and love happened instantly for me!

  4. Vogue 1465 is on my wishlist too! Not just for the jacket, I think the skirt is pretty as well!

  5. I have the Donna Karan jacket set and skirt you listed. Planning on tackling that skirt in a soft suede or fall. I actually want about 6 of the patters they came out with--thought it was a good bunch.

    1. Oh! And that Ann Klein (I think) pea coat-like jacket. I LOVED that!

  7. I was somewhat underwhelmed by the pattern offerings. I feel like I have several patterns similar to what they are offering. I do like 1465 for the jacket and top; I have a Burda skirt pattern very similar to the one included with this pattern. My other pattern that has potential but probably not right for my body is 1460.

  8. I really like Vogue 1465, particularly for the jacket. However, I can't wrap my head around sewing for cooler weather right now. I'm still into summer sewing. I look forward to seeing your creations though!

  9. Love your selection. Lots of great looks there. It is fun that your style is changing as you bring in a different business casual look. I especially like the final pinafore dress.

  10. V9122 is nice, but personally I prefer M7187 (looks cute with the plaid, and the princess type seam should make an FBA easier), or M6988 (which already has the different cup sizes).

  11. My picks are V9131 for the dress shorts - I have a blouse pattern already that I want to pair these with. Also like you, I love the dress V9132 and skirt V9122. Finally I adore the circa 1939 dress with those pockets above the bust. The whole dress is lovely, but I would like to experiment with pockets like those. The little girl dress V9141 is exactly what I was looking for 2 years ago - this is why I now collect patterns because it can be years before you get exactly what you want.

  12. These are very nice. 9128 and 9122, although I don't often wear that shape of dress.
