What's Going On...

My last post was February 19th and I was just getting over the crud.  I went to work on the Tuesday after the President's Day holiday, came home sank into bed and have been in the midst of a minor health crisis since. Y'all know me so you know I'm not gonna go into details cause the Internet lives forever!  But I am grateful to have a job that allows you to work from home when you're not feeling well and that provides sick time when you need it.

I'm finally coming out on the other end, starting to feel like myself again, so my sewing plans for the end of February and beginning of March have been trashed.

Here is where I left off:

The chambray denim blue pin dot shirt just needs buttons sewn onto it.  Something I want to do today. The glen plaid vest is done and is just waiting to be photographed.  The black cotton shirt with the gingham accents has been hanging the longest because I just couldn't decide upon a finished length. I think I'm gonna go longer so it needs a hem, buttons and buttonholes.

Even though the calendar says it will be spring in 10 days ~ it really is still the end of winter here as evidenced by the nor'easter that came through and dropped about 10" of snow on us.

It probably won't start to warm up until the end of April so my unfinished sewing plans will still work. Also, Imma be more realistic about warm weather, it doesn't become comfortable dress wearing weather until the middle of May around here and even Memorial Day is questionable.  Some years it's hot and some days it rainy and damp.

So with shirt ideas still on my mind, here is the pile of shirting that I'm working my way through.

End of Month Totals ~
Realistically I only completed one garment in the month of February ~ the vest so I have 4 yards out and 3 yards in. When I went to pick up my next quarter fabric allotment from Elliott Berman, there was this amazing piece of double-sided wool that I just couldn't leave behind.

I wanted to make a new Easter dress but that's out the window now, so I'm glad I paid for that piece myself. Anyway, my yearly totals so far are 13.5 yards out and 3 yards in with a total of 5 new garments.

Going forward ~
I'd planned on sewing for my daughter at the beginning of March but she's totally let me off the hook on that one.  I will be able to attend Sew Camp as planned so I'm thrilled about that! Cause believe me I was starting to get worried but I believe I will be well enough to hang with my friends and I need that after the last 3 weeks.

I will get the two remaining pieces finished this weekend and hope to get some more shirts cut out. Then I have to determine what I'm bringing with me to Sew Camp to sew. I know I'm going to cut and prep 2 or 3 projects because that's what I realistically think I can make during the time.

If I feel up to it next weekend, I will photograph the finished garments and hopefully there will be new blog posts. Otherwise there will definitely be blog posts after Sew Camp.

So that's what's been going on...hopefully things will be back to normal here on the blog.

...as always more later!

  1. Glad you're feeling better and can get to the things on your list. I'm finalizing my list and I too think 3-4 garments maybe reasonable for the retreat. Get well soon and it's good to see you back!

    1. LaQuana - honestly I think I'm taking 2-3 fully prepped garments that just need to be sewn. Cause seriously how much sewing are we gonna do with all the talking?!

  2. So glad to hear you are feeling better. I was worried. A friend of mine ended up in the hospital in the ICU but is doing better now. Nasty bugs this winter!! Love all the checks and plaids you are working on. I love them too and shirts to me are all season garments. Depends on how you layer them, or don't as the case may be. Enjoy your March, Sew Camp and all!!

  3. Sorry to hear you were not well. As we get older these things seem to hit harder. Your fabrics are so nice- I'm tempted to "reach in" and caress them! LOL!

  6. I was wondering why you were so quiet. So sorry you have been so sick, but glad to hear things are looking up. Take your time building up your strength! The sewing will still be there.

  7. Yay! I’m so happy you are feeling better. The sick has been bad this year - I got sick mid-January and I’m still not fully recovered. It sucks how much that impacts the sewing plans, but the sewjo always seems to leave when sickness kicks up. Glad that you are able to get back to your sewing plans - enjoy!

  15. I am so glad you have a job where you can work from home if you want to. I do appreciate going somewhere else to work (still have kid at home, spouse works from home, too much noise and MOM MOM MOM around here). 'Options open' is the best.
I keep telling myself that in August, I am going to be moaning about how overheated it all is. Cuts down on my 'i'm cooooooooold' whining. Somewhat.

    1. SJ - I love my job. I took it for the flexibility. I was tired of being tied to an office space and feel like I'm more productive from home - no distractions. Though I have learned that I'm only good for 2 consecutive days from home. I still like being able to get dressed and go into the office especially in the spring, summer and fall.

  18. Glad to hear you are feeling better. We got about 6" of snow from that lovely storm. Less than some places in Nova Scotia. We drove through two good snow storms yesterday while out shopping. Crazy weather.

  38. You have been missed! Sorry to learn you were under the weather. Glad that you are beginning to feel better. We got snow today here in Roanoke, VA; lucky for us that the streets were not so frozen as I was able to take DH for his medical procedure that had been scheduled months ago without fear of icy streets and roads. I am so over winter. Your area has truly been hard hit.

  42. Hi Carolyn,
I wanted you to know that I followed your blog about 4 years ago when I was sewing quite a bit. Then I stopped sewing because I went back to school and it was tough enough juggling a full time job and school. Since then, I graduated AND retired. I'm back to sewing and wondered if you were still "out there." I was pleasantly surprised to rediscover you and I see that you are sewing more casual/sporty outfits. Good for you! Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you for all your wonderful tips and for still being out there for me to rediscover you all over again.

    Peace and Love,
    Denise

    1. Denise - that's so cool that you're back to sewing! And yes, I've had a few life changes so I'm wearing more casual clothing now. I won't be able to retire for another 10 years at least so I will be right here sewing and sharing.
