No Sewing Here...

It's a balmy summer day...the wind is blowing softly through my apartment...the sun is shining brightly and no sewing is going on here. Instead, I am buried nose deep in fall fashion as more and more September magazines arrive:

So I am spending the rest of this wonderful day laying across my bed (teenager style) flipping through magazines with my trusty Lucky "yes" strips with Fred Astaire movies playing on TCM in the background...and for those, who like Marji, don't know what they are...Lucky magazine includes a page of sticky Yes post-its in every magazine. I save mine to use in other magazines as well as the Lucky for interesting ideas.

Maybe I'll sew tomorrow or maybe I will still be buried in magazines dreaming, wishing and planning Fall 2008/Winter 2009!!!

  1. I hate that some magazines appear in stores (especially the nyc ones) before my subscriptions come in. I want my Vogue! Although last night I had a dream that the postal carrier injured himself carrying a bag full of September Vogues!!
This must be some sort of Freaky Saturday, because I am actually here sewing when I am usually sitting in my apartment with a breeze blowing through the window, reading magazines...

  3. Hi, would you be interested in an Aus/US sewing mag swap? I could send you Australian Stitches, for say BWOF? So hard to get my hands on Burda, and I can easily get Stitches!
    Cheers, Rachael

  5. I told my daughter to pick up the vogue after your previous post. I had gotten her the Sept Lucky the other day. From the looks of your collection I need to pick up the In Style. My daughter puts those yes stickers on things she likes so when I read the mags I know what caught her eye. Have fun reading and getting inspired. mssewcrazy

  6. LOL, nah, I don't need sticky strips - I just tear out the pages I like and paste all the pretty pictures up on an idea board. Stickers?
Um, sometime this weekend you're going to trace a pattern, Right???

  7. Sounds like you had a real relaxing day. We all need a rest sometimes, and I like your method. This way you will be ready for all your fall sewing - full of new ideas. I still need to get September Vogue.

  9. I want my In Style! I was disappointed with the Vogue and loved the Harpers Bazaar. I also picket up their Runway Report which I love. Its like the French runway report that I picked up in France several years ago and have looked at here(not paying $25 for this) and really love seeing the highlights of the collections and not having to wade through so much on line. Enjoy!

  10. Doing the same thing here, Carolyn. Did you get today's NY Times with the fall fashion magazine? That's always fun to look at, though I prefer the articles that come before the high-art fashion spreads.

  11. Nancy K, I agree, the Bazaar special issue is SO much better than the Sept. Vogue. Frankly, I was disappointed in it. As for Anna Wintour's letter about saving money, economizing, etc. - who does she think she's kidding? Her audience (the people who really buy these clothes) is not hurting much at all.

  12. I'm coming up for air from all the non-sewing/work and party related stuff we have going on here to leave a comment...finally....

I love all the vintage patterns you've been collecting and the outfits you've been creating. A nice treat to wander through your blog.

Sept Magazines...I've been grabbing them as quickly as I can find them. I had to go to 2 stores and 2 bookstores before I snagged Sept Vogue. No Sept Lucky or In Style here yet. The one thing I liked about Vogue this time is the photographs weren't too "artsy" and I could actually see the clothing. I haven't had time to crack open the others I bought. I'll get there sslloowwllyy. ;o)

  13. You know what? This explains why your wardrobe always looks so current and fresh.

I guess I am going to have to nab some magazines. I just hope they don't have offensive ads in them.
