So without further ado - this is what I looked like on my wedding day...and don't laugh!

I think I need a scanner cause I can't get these to come out any better...sorry they are blurry...I've taken them a couple of times...anyway, I wore a sleeveless white dress with ruffles at the hem and a 3/4 length jacket in pink and a huge pink hat!
And this is one of my Matron of Honor:
She wore a pink/white polka dot dress from satin that I made for her...hey it was the 80s! I also made my daughter's flower girl dress...dang, she's 27 now with a son of her own...this seems like just yesterday...*sigh*
Anyway, I've had a rough, can I say that again R-O-U-G-H week and thought a walk down memory lane would be fun!
That's too sweet! Did you save the dress? I've got mine put away for my girl, but I didn't make it (thank goodnes!).
ReplyDeleteCarolyn, don't ever apologize for waxing nostalgic. Looking at old pictures is a ritual we all seem to have do now and then. It connects us with the past for better or worse. And sometimes looking at ourselves is like looking at a stranger. I enjoyed seeing your wedding outfit and mother and father. You looked very happy and so did they. Life is tough and even though some of the happiness is gone, you have some memories left.

Awww... how sweet! Michael and I plan to renew our vows for our 20th anniversary in 3 years and I'm going to make my dress. My daughter has told me that I'm going to make her wedding dress. That's still some time off and I won't hold her to it! LOL

ReplyDeleteWould I make a wedding dress? Well, I've already been picked to make one, for my cousin D. She doesn't have a set date yet, however, she's got some ideas of what she'd like. I think it would be the ultimate challenge for any home sewer. :):):):)

I did not get to make my daughters' wedding gowns; they went 'just to try on' and fell in love. But I did make my dress for my wedding in 1977 and I was as much a creature of the period as you: white eyelet with gingham ribbons that had been woven into the fabric, long bell sleeves and flowers in my hair. No Joke. And a wedding in a public park. I think weddings really are 'of their time' - one of my daughters got married in a vineyard in the fall; the other one emigrated to the UK and got married this summer at a castle in Scotland, two venues that when I was married, we wouldn't have even considered.

My dearly beloved told me on a Wednesday that he wanted to be married on Friday, so I bought something only 2 sizes too big and lived with it (I used to be a size 3 in 1979, sigh, back when 3 was really tiny). It's so nice that you and your ex are friendly; that makes it better for the girls.
