A Mistake...

*sigh* Yes, I make them too...

Want to know how to make one. Take this fabric:

Add my TNT pattern with my own idea:

And get this...

I look like a crazy old lady version of "Bring It On"...ummmm not the look I was going for. It took me all day today to come up with this mess...and of course, the pleats have three inches of stitches in them...the zipper is put in by hand and oh yes the top is lined.

I will take it apart next weekend...*sigh*...because if I don't take it apart right away...it will just sit mocking me...but not tonight...tonight I'm tired and going to bed...

Parting shot:

I received these in the mail from Patty. She made them for The Little Prince. Isn't he adorable in them!

More later!

  5. That happen to me as well. I hung this butt ugly dress in my sewing studio where I had to look at it every time I entered the room. I thought and thought how i could salvage it because i love the fabric. One day I took the dress down and cut the bodice off. I salvaged about two yards of the fabric, so not all was lose. good luck

  6. Here's the downside of taking risks with your sewing. You might make some mistakes. But then, you learn stuff, too. Think about what you have learned here, and move on. Perhaps, an interesting fabric needs a simpler design to show it off?

  7. I'd like to see it on you. It doesn't look that bad. what did it look like on? Is it just to much at the top? The Little Prince is beyond adorable. He's beautiful. His little booties are so cute.

  8. I don't think it's that bad either, but you are your own best judge. Commendable that you're saving the fabric, I doubt I'd be that dedicated either. The little guy is adorable! K

  10. My first thought when I saw the dress (before I read your comments beneath) was `Carolyn doesn`t really strike me as the cheerleading type, but hey, to each her own.` So when I read your description of the dress, I couldn`t help but laugh!

Sorry about the dress malfunction, but at least the grandbaby is perfect!

  11. I'd love to see the dress on you. Frankly, I have no problem with it. It's linen. Its summery. It could be great for a day of shopping when it is really warm out. But you are the best judge. It is quite graphic and that I think is out of your comfort zone. Personally, I love graphic prints so maybe that's why I would wear this dres. I guess the bottom line is "would I buy this?" and if the answer is a big No, well that says it all.

  14. I too wonder what it would look like on you. Your "Bring It On" cheerleader comment made me snort! LOL! Too funny.

I was thinking about those old lawn chairs when I first saw it. But I'm not sure it would look so bad on you. It's just not very flattering on the wall.

Try it on and take a photo before you take it apart. Let us see if it doesn't look good. Sometimes things on the hanger look worse than you think.

The little prince is too adorable! What a sweetie! Those booties are to die for!

  16. Sorry about the dress Carolyn. It's encouraging to know that everyone - my sewing mentors included - make mistakes.

The little Prince is too cute :)

  17. Kudos to you for walking away from it. Life is too short to worry about things that didn't work out or to wear clothes you don't like or out of guilt. Keep those eyes on the next pretty dress and don't look back.

The prince is so cute! You're so lucky to have such a cute grandson.

  18. Yeah, Carolyn, 'splain please why you don't like this on you because it looks pretty good on the hanger.

And omigosh is that baby boy adorable or what?!!

  19. Those booties are adorable, and the little prince is so precious! Sorry about the dress. It was a cool idea--sometimes there's just no way to predict what will happen in real life.

  20. Awww, he is too cute. I think those little booties are the sweetest little thing!

The dress bodice looks like it would be great with a solid colored skirt... how is it attached right now? Is it just a line of straight stitching, or did you serge it together or something?

  21. Taht little prince is "trop trop mignon", a real "trésor"
I want to see you with the dress please, it doesn't look that bad

  22. So sorry about the dress. Now I love to sew more, with no more frustration. If you can make a mistake then it's not an offence for me to make more.....Have a lovely day.. BTW, what a cute little prince you have there

  23. Sorry you don't like the way the dress looks on you.

The booties are precious just like your GS.

  24. Aww the baby is so cute!! I was just looking at that fabric the other day and was wondering what could be made with it. I guess this isn't it.

  25. At least the baby is too cute for words. I do have grandchild envy when I see him! The dress, well these things happen. It's an interesting idea gone wrong?

  26. Oh dear. It does look a bit... undignified. As queen of "what the hell was I thinking" sewing (which is why you only see KNITTING when I blog), I am completely sympathetic.

On the bright side, it's a beautifully constructed cheerleader dress. Not a mistake really, just an opportunity to show off your excellent workmanship. Just look at the way you've matched the pattern on the sleeves. Fabulous!! And those pleats - I bet they are the best pleats in the entire history of pleats!

I learn from you every day, Carolyn. If my "good stuff" could turn out half as good as your "mistakes, I'd be a happy stitcher!

  27. The baby is adorable! Too bad when your ideas don't work out. I'm sure you'll get it right.

  28. The booties look cute on the cutie pie !!! I am always confused what to do with stripes Glad to see I am not the only one

  29. :-( bomber, but the booties are so cute of the little charmer.

  30. The booties are too cute and I totally feel you on your mistake but at least you can take it apart and make something else.

  31. I think this is a very tough prospect...stripes and checks that are so large are hard to manage at best. You probably did the right thing having the stripes on the bottom. I'm not sure there's a good solution to this. I'll be interested to see what you do with this.

  32. Oh what a handsome young man! I love the booties. Red is definitely his color:-)

  33. OK. It's a hoot.
    We've all been there.

  34. You had closed the comments on the post for today and I am not going to comment on weight loss. As for the dress, try a simple black bottom. I think that is all it needs to make it work.

  35. Sorry for your dress, it happens to all of us...

    That baby looks so cute!!!
