Weekend Update

As I was putting clothes back into the closet yesterday, I realized that I have barely worn any of my summer skirts. I use to make loads of skirts in all kinds of lengths and widths because my work wardrobe staple was a twinset and skirt. Since that has changed, I don't wear skirts as much anymore unless a jacket is involved.

So I'm always thrilled when July and August rolls around...the temperatures get hotter and the dress code gets a little looser. In honor of that occurrence...this week will be skirt week for me! To celebrate I made these two new skirts:

Both are made from my TNT 4 gore skirt pattern...which is an evolution of or bastardized version of this OOP McCall's pattern:

The first one is lined and made from the yellow silk/cotton paisley print and works really well in the Gelato Wardrobe.

The second is unlined and made from a home dec linen print purchased from Fabric.com a couple of months ago.

These are simple sew garments but will add some punch to my work wardrobe. I still have 2 more items to make to finish up the Gelato collection. I'm starting to get a little antsy now. I'm ready to move on...however, I really want this last dress/jacket combination so I will stay the course until they are finished.

As always...more later!

  2. I love the prints on your skirts. I have some home dec linen that I was going to make pillows for the outdoor porch but have always considered it for a skirt. thanks for convincing me!

  5. The paisley I'm totally feelin. I've been a paisley kind of mood lately. And it seems the best prints on fabric.com are found in areas other than apparel fabric.

  8. I can't wait to see the entire ensemble photographed. I just put that pattern in my discard pile. Maybe I should pull it out again. Tuesday I'm taking them all to my ASG meeting and try to give them away.

  12. Lovely skirts! I love the fabrics- especially the yellow print - I wish I had snapped some of it up when FM had it - ah well, the one that got away! :)

  13. Good looking skirts. You wrote in the last paragraph, you were ready to finish up the Gelato collection and move on. That is the reason I haven't done a wardrobe or SWAP even thoug I want to. I'm sure I'd get a little tired of it after a while. But, after seeing yours, I can certainly see the value in a collection.

  17. Summer skirts are such fun to wear, a nice change from more traditional and somewhat conservative business attire! Love your fabric choices! Oh yeah, I'm also lusting after the Badgley Mischka Vogue patterns!

  18. Would you believe I still haven't worn the pencil skirt I made with you, Marji and Cidell? I used to be such a skirt and dress person. I hate my legs now though.

  19. I am loving your blogspot. I just bought a piece of 100%cotton quilt fabric to make a skirt and top. I may regret this because aside from being very loud, it also has a repeat and vertical rows of print. Oh well, we will see. Logging in here gives me inspiration.

  20. Alright, you got my attention! Paisley and a houndstooth! Yay! They look great and I can see them coordinating nicely with the other gelatos.

  21. I love the houndstooth one the best, now that is something you never see in the stores, a spring color summer weight houndstooth skirt.
    beautiful
and the yellow dress that Mrs Obama had on is just striking, she really looks amazing in that dress against her skin tone, yellow is such the it color right now.
