If you've been reading my ramblings for any period of time, you know that I live on the East Coast. The same East Coast that at present is being inundated with snow...*sigh* And as I read blog post after blog post by my sewing sisters here on the East Coast and each one shows a picture of an awesome amount of snow...I get more and more depressed.
See, I HATE SNOW! Friggin' fiddle-de-de-de hate it! Yeah it looks all white and pretty when it's coming down but it effs up traffic, makes commuting to work a royal pain in the tush...and in no time it will be all brown and dirty looking and icing up. Seriously people what is there to like!?!
So on General Principal, I'm refusing to show a picture of the snow here in NJ. I'm ornery, I'm angry and I'm depressed...*sigh* I HATE SNOW!
...and I still haven't sewn a lick! Waste of a perfectly good snow day!...*sigh*

ReplyDeleteOK, I don't like the cold either, so wrap up well. (Slightly off topic I object to "coat" patterns that don't reach below the knee - that's not a coat that's a JACKET. Someone should tell BURDA that. And coats that flip open round your legs when you walk? What? Does someone carry you everywhere? I have five, yes, FIVE ankle-length coats and two I don't like much because they have that flippy-opening thing).
ReplyDeleteBut the good thing about snow and ice is that it kills off all the fungus and the ravening bugs that attack all those lovely plants and trees that we are waiting to see blossoming and coming into bloom next spring and summer. If you have a garden, or you haunt the public parks in the summer, you love a good hard cold snap. You worry when the winter is mild!
So love the snow and we'll all watch you make a lovely long coat for next winter at least!

I have to say that I'm not a fan of snow either. I think that if you live in the countryside it can look rather pretty but in the city, where I live, it never looks good and, as you say, just makes getting anywhere really difficult.
ReplyDeleteUnderstand completely. That's how I felt when I had to go out in it. But now that 20 years have passed from those days, I feel a bit wistful when I see "first snow" pictures. But it's easy to be wistful from 1000 miles away. Stay warm and dry!

ReplyDeleteI'm with you Carolyn, that's why I live in Tucson. Snow, when we get it, doesn't stay long and it's just gorgeous on the Santa Catalina mountains. We are fortunate to have the pretty views with none of the mess although as stated above, if the winter is too warm, we worry. I haven't sewn much either so I'm surfing for inspiration.

ReplyDeleteI use to feel that way about snow, but realized that I can't change it and just flow with it. Now if I had to shovel snow, which I've done only once in my life... I would have to be tranquilized to subdue my crazed attitude...lol

ReplyDeleteI don't hate snow, don't love it either though. What I hate is the cold that always follows, and the icy streets and parking lots. And dragging the salt/sand into the house, not matter how hard you stamp and wipe your feet on the doormat, and taking shoes off when you get inside.
ReplyDeleteIt's been twenty years since I've lived on the East Coast and since I've had to deal with snow. I love seeing the pictures of the snow and the immediate transformation of the views, but I'm very glad that I am only watching and not having to deal with the weather. It looks like a big storm--stay warm and dry!

ReplyDeleteI lived in the midwest in the frigid, snow-filled late '70's (anyone else remember the Blizzard of '78?) and I can remember being so sick of snow...and just couldn't quite comprehend there were places in the US that weren't covered w/the white stuff.
ReplyDeleteThere was a joke going around then about a guy that packed up his family, strapped a snow shovel on his car and headed south. He got to somewhere in Tennessee before anyone asked him what that thing on his car was; at that point, he announced to the wife and kids, 'We're home!'
However, I do miss it a bit, now that I've been gone for, well, a long time. We haven't had a snow day since 2003...and that was for 1/2".
I do agree w/you, though...after about 2 days, snow in the city is just yucky.

I'm with ya! You'd think after living most of my life in Minnesota that I would have grown to love the stuff - and I do when all I have to do is sit inside and look at it. I hate what it does to the rush hour commutes and especially dislike when the beautiful sparkling white turns dingy brown.
