Maybe this happened because I spent quality time in the street yesterday...maybe I didn't properly prepare myself to sew!? Usually I wake up on Saturdays, clean my room, maybe prep some fabric and generally prepare to sew. That didn't happen yesterday. Yesterday I was out shopping with my mom...and these followed me home:

So today I did mundane things like the laundry...like seriously? I am so ready to sew for spring so can I begin the chorus of..."I'm ready for spring!" I'm back to work tomorrow...gotta go figure out what I'm wearing tomorrow...but it has been one no sewing weekend and no sewing Sunday...

ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to seeing your spring sewing. Today I was starting to put an invisible zipper in a dress with a waist seam (Vogue1025) and I thought about your beautiful spring dress, the yellow and white silk and linen dress with the gorgeous waist insert. I remembered how disappointed you were when the waist seams didn't line up perfectly and so I stopped and thought hard about how I'd prevent that. I sewed one side of the zipper as usual. Then before I sewed the other side I closed the zipper, lined up each side of the waist seam, and hand stitched it in place for one cm each side of the waist seam. Then I machine sewed the zipper starting from the hand stitching and sewing up to the neck. Then I turned the dress around and started sewing from the hand stitches towards the hem. Perfect :-)

ReplyDeleteI just LOVE your new shoes! And in 2 colors at that, I tend to do the same thing if I find a pair I really like. I see "dressbarn" printed on the shoe, Dressbarn here does not carry shoes. pooey!

ReplyDeleteYesterday was a no-sewer for me too. I ran around doing all sorts of other necessities. How long can you really ignore them to sew? And then there wasn't much left for sewing that allowed me good light to see what I was doing. Ya know, we all have to have a little breather now and then. Luv the shoes.
ReplyDeleteI am a sucker for slingbacks! Last year I bought a pair of brown patent mock croc pumps I am surprised with how many things I can wear them with. I'm sure even though you weren't sewing, you were still planning!

ReplyDeleteCarolyn, I just read Gertie's blog this morning and CONGRATULATIONS to you for sticking up for yourself (who I think is a fashion Diva:) and all those who may be built just a bigger than most. We all have fitting issues and sometimes the big pattern companies don't take into consideration that every buyer may not be a size 6 or 8.

According to the groundhog today we have 6 more weeks of winter. That should give us all time to do some sewing for spring.
ReplyDeleteCarolyn, I read your Q&A on Gertie's blog too. It really got me thinking of how people are portrayed according to their size. Have you read The Number 1 Ladies Detective Agency series, by, Alexander McCall Smith? The protagonist is a traditionally built lady. I find traditionally built a more honest term to use describing a larger size. How many of our grandmas were skinny minnies?
