Hey Y'all Hey...

I'm dropping in to say hey, I'm still alive...just not sewing.  I've spent the summer reading.  However, as I read the words an author's put on the page and recognize their creativity, my own creative urges are stirring.  Maybe it's the seasons changing, or allowing a friend to root through my fabric collection and liberate several yards to take home with her...or even just my creative season changing.  But I have an urge to create a few new pieces.

One thing I've realized is gone are the days where I will make a new creation every weekend. I no longer live that life.  I've made a lot of clothing, items that I can still pull from my closet and wear.  As a matter of fact I wore this jacket to dinner last night with a sewing friend...

It was thrilling to pull it out and pair it with a sleeveless top I'd made and a pair of black knit pants. When I looked at the innards, I was pleased to see all of the work that I had put into it and shared in my blog post.  This is the kind of sewing I want to get back to. Where I pick a distinctive fabric, take a pattern and use the best sewing techniques I know to end up with a unique garment.

Plus I knew my sewing drought was ending when I purchased several yards of fabric from Julia Cost. It's been over five months before I thought about using my credit cards for something other than a book!  Don't know when my next post will be but the creative juices are stirring.  Fabric and patterns have been pulled and placed together, inspiration is talking to me, so we shall see what comes of it.

If you're reading this, thank you!  I think this is the longest I've ever gone without sewing, posting or discussing sewing and if you're still reading I appreciate you!

...as always more later!

  4. It's been a long time since I've clicked on any sewing blogs--and I use to read them every day--so it was quite a coincidence that I went to yours this afternoon. Thanks for posting an update and I am happy to know that your creativity and inspiration are bubbling. Feel free to recommend your favorite reads!

  8. I appreciate you! Thank you for this post. It makes sense that you would have enough clothes. There's no rush to make more. But, but, but, maybe there is a new style to explore, or a particularly interesting clothing era, or some amazing fabric, or a loved one to sew for who needs something in particular. A good complicated pattern can take one's mind off of the news. So can a bunch of mindless easy sewing! Thank you for inspiring me, Carolyn

  9. Glad that your creativity is returning. I understand the urge to read as I have been doing a lot of that - and real books not kindle. I took out my summer clothes and discovered that I had everything I need. I spent a few days contemplating what to do next as sewing is my stress release from teaching. I decided to just go with my fancies and make some TNT patterns. Jacqui from New Zealand

  10. Hi Carolyn, so lovely to see you back, and you look great in your sunflower jacket. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with your new fabric. I too have been reading up a storm, and sewing less, and have joined a book club. It is such fun! I have just finished The Gown by Jennifer Robson. The heroines are two embroiderers who, in 1947, work on the wedding dress of the late Queen Elizabeth II, a story of friendship with a background of the holocaust. Happy reading/sewing!

  13. I understand the changing needs for garments affecting how much and what you sew and post here. I haven't sewn a garment in at least 4 years, before I retired. My attention has turned to quilts & needlework. I may change that, as I'm getting tired of choosing between the same few tops again and again. Not that I go out and need to put on nicer clothes that often.
Even if you aren't sewing, it's nice to see a post letting us know how you are doing.

  15. You’ll never loose us. I see your comments and likes all the time on ig, and it’s like seeing an old friend passing in a crowd. Life changes us, but the core is there.

  16. It's always lovely to see a post from you, and great that you're enjoying your reading so much! Like most things in life, sewing has it's ebbs and flows. That jacket really is gorgeous.
