Even though I can only wear 3 or 4 pieces out of every magazine, I must own every issue! The magazine inspires me and makes me look at some of the pieces I want to create differently...however, I am GOING to sew from this issue. This is the first issue in a long time that seems like the garments were made just for me!

I love the funky collar on this dress
And even though this skirt is in the skinny girls' sizes, I j'adore it!
I mean I really think I could use my TNT straight skirt pattern and work it out...I came home from work wishing that I had time to trace this out. I know that it's going to show up in the wardrobes of many a slimmer figured woman but I think this would work wonderfully for us plus size women too!
So now I'm wondering should I go with my original "Thanksgiving Plan" or should I improvise...*sigh* Winning Mega Millions right now would solve that problem wouldn't it...
For the first time in a long time, I've got Burda Fever and I need to do something about it! *LOL*
There won't be a New Sewists Thursday post this week because it's Thanksgiving...and this is probably my last post until the weekend. I hope all my American friends have a wonderful Thanksgiving...full of food, family and fun! Safe travels everyone...and as always, more later!

ReplyDeleteCarolyn watch it on that skirt. A friend made it up (she's a few years older than we are) and that front pleat only accentuated her middle-aged tummy area. She wore it to one of our sewing days (a group of us tries to get together monthly to sew/fit etc) to show us the result, and it was not a flattering look. She knew it and was essentially warning us.

I love those dresses! I'll have to wait until the middle of December - when Burda finally shows up at Borders!

ReplyDeleteOh I just traced that skirt pattern tonight. I hope it doesn't accentuate my tummy!!! I'll let you know how my muslin goes. And if I like it, you'll have to tell me how to add a lining to it. ;)

ReplyDeleteI love that dress and jacket combo too. As well as the sweater dress. BTW I walked into NY Elegant Fabrics on Friday and if you want to make that great jacket in a sequined fabric, it can be yours for $150 a yard, or more depending on what you choose. How many yards does that jacket call for? Lottery it is.

I just finished cutting out (no muslin-EEK) the skirt and adding it to my stack of things to sew. It would be really easy to change your TNT skirt to this style, eliminating any finishing issues.
ReplyDeleteMaybe any accentuating has to do with fabric choice? Won't know until I try it. In the BWOF pattern, the waistband is contoured, so should rest at the waistline and below.
I'm working on a Burda jacket from the 11/09 mag. I have a collection of Burda mags that I've been collecting. It has been more than a year since I last tried a Burda. Tracing the pattern was not as bad as I thought that it was going to be. The cowl neck dress is on my list. I have a modal knit that it will be perfect for.

ReplyDeleteI don't have the Dec Burda yet - I get it from the store (SewItSeams) and I haven't been there since early November. So I haven't seen the skirt.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking that if it were done in a tropical wool or something equally as lightweight and crisp that the silhouette might lie flat enough to be flattering and fun.
I'd also be leary of making it in anything that has any degree of bulk at all.
