Lately, I've been attempting to use some "new" or newly purchased patterns to vary up my look. I'm trying to work outside my comfort zone...to try something different from my norm...to expand my horizons and learn some new skills. So in the upcoming months there will be some things made up and shared here that may not be what you've come to expect from me.
I'm feeling a little restless and a need to shake things up. Yes, there will still be dresses made from my TNT (tried and true) pattern but besides some fabric manipulation, I feel a need to try a variety of silhouettes. So bear with me as I make this journey because I'm sure there are going to be some awesome and amazing winners and then at other times there will be some dogs...so be gentle with your criticisms! *LOL*
Just warning you up front because I'm working outside my comfort zone!
I'm sure you are going to come up with some lovely creations, even if some others don't work out along the way. Who knows, you may even end up with a few more TnT's!

ReplyDeleteI a looking forward to see what you come up with. But I do understand how hard it is to work outside your comfort zone. Taking on a new challenge can be scary. I know this because I have these pre-conceived notions that if I want to start sewing I would mess up all the fabric and waste time and money so that is the excuse I use to keep my sewing machine in the closet and label myself as a person that wants to learn to sew. So go ahead and amaze us.
ReplyDeleteI think it's good to try new shapes once in a while, I've done the same in the last couple of years, some winners some failures, but you never know if you don't try!

ReplyDeleteI'm kind of chuckling because I seem to work the opposite way-- I hardly ever make the same pattern twice! But looking forward to seeing what you come up with-- I'm sure they'll be great!

ReplyDeleteGo for it! I understand what you mean, though, about falling back onto the TNT patterns . . . it's like comfort food, always satisfying. Heck, with your smile and personality, I think anything you make would look terrific on you!
ReplyDeleteWorking outside your comfort zone is a good thing. You've got a lot of clothing so it's not like if you don't complete the number of garments you'd planned will mean you don't have anything to wear! Art school taught me that process is just as important as the product. I can see it getting those creative juices flowing and who knows, you might find some new silhouettes you like even better than your tnt patterns. Have fun.

ReplyDeleteAs much as I like the concept of the TNT (and you have proven it has distinct advantages over and over again) I did wonder if you didn't feel a little bored, or, at the very least, unchallenged.

ReplyDeleteI started sewing outside my comfort zone for SWAP and I think it has really freed my mind. Now I find interest in patterns that I had previously dismissed for one reason or another. I'm making things that I never would have made a year ago. You have a creative mind, so I am sure you will come up with some incredible garments once you start.

With your skills you can go in any direction - gourmet sewing for the little prince, some tailored winter coats, and so much more. I wish you the best on your journey and will be here to egg you on.
