So we all realize that it's Saturday morning...so that covers the Weekend portion of the title...
And it is raining to beat the band here in NJ...huge, big drops that you have no trouble seeing right outside my kitchen window...
Finally, I will be sewing today. But I'm in a mood you see...I don't know if its the weather...or if its a reflection of what I've worn to work for the last three weeks...*sigh* But I just don't feel like working on Vogue 1127. Not because I don't want to make it...I do! I just don't feel like a very large involved project right now...so I'm putting it aside for another weekend.
I'm in the mood to sew separates. One piecers that will go with garments that are already in my wardrobe. I'm also in the mood to sew dresses. Like when am I not in the mood to sew dresses, right?! *LOL* But seriously, I noticed that during this last set of meetings I was much more comfortable in a dress/jacket or dress/sweater combination than I was in a jacket/skirt combination. I'm not sure if it was because there were so many moving pieces on my body or what? I just know that I felt more professional and polished with a dress on.
Now that being said...the things I want to make are a couple of lined sheath dresses...a lined straight skirt and a cardigan. Of course what I want to sew is greater than the time I have but isn't that always the case? I've already cleaned my sewing table off...it didn't have as much "stuff" on it as usual. Could that have something to do with the fact that I had visitors last weekend and so I actually had to clean my space? *LOL*
Anyway...I'm headed there shortly. I have a few more internet spots to check...a little more inspiration to get and then I'm going to sew. As always...more later!
I wear a uniform, have worn one for 30 yrs, so I have never had to choose what I wear to work everyday, but if I did I think I would wear dresses/jacket/sweater combinations too, it does sound comfortable.
ReplyDeleteHave fun sewing today.
I'm also hoping to get to my sewing today :)
I love dresses too - I think it's easier to look 'put-together' in a dress - you don't have that what top goes with what bottom dilemma when you're in a rush to get ready. I think you can't go far wrong in a perfecty fitted, well constructed dress. I love all of the three gorgeous dresses you made on your sewing vacation - no wonder you want to make more.
ReplyDeleteMy feeling is that there is no binding at the waistline with dresses, and so we can forget about making minor tweaks or adjustments. I personally like the look of a sheath dress with jacket.
ReplyDeleteI know how passionate you are about dressmaking and you do so well with the dresses.
ReplyDeleteBut I love Vouge 1127 and hope that you do get to it soon. It is also on my list of things to make.
separates sounds like a great idea, the thing with dresses is that I have to wear stocking/leggings and that is something I feel lazy to put on the colder mornings. hope you have a great weekend
ReplyDeleteHi
ReplyDeleteI saw some pictures (on another blog) of your "dinner with friends" and there was som pictures of your outfit.
You had a sort of cardigan "with hood?" in this knit/croche- fabric on.
Did you sow that yourself?
I have sort of the same fabric and im not sure how to use if but your garment looks very nice.
What pattern did you use ? and do you have more pictures of it.
Sorry for the trouble. I realy like your blogg.
Thanks
Annette Denmark
Annette - you saw that pic on Wendy's blog and no I did not make those pieces. They are RTW. Most of my casual stuff is because I wear so little of it. I concentrate on making the garments that I wear to work. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance!
ReplyDeleteAlways honor the sewing mojo!
ReplyDeleteI am thinking more about dresses. It does sound very comfortable. I have a casual workplace so I usually wear pants, but I am re-thinking that.
Raining here, too.
My major problem is finding a big enough chunk of time to get anything accomplished, which is why me and a couple friends have set up a retreat for all sorts of crafters in Edison, NJ at the Hilton Garden there. Unfortunately right now we're overrun with scrapbookers. Would be nice if we could get some passionate sewers like myself. Please look at our blog if you get a chance.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE dresses, too. I could probably sew dresses exclusively, and be perfectly happy.
ReplyDeleteIt is pouring rain here in Connecticut. And DH is at his parents watching football - a perfect sewing day!
I'm with you on the dresses front; I find myself way more intersted in sewing dresses because it makes it so easy to get dressed. Plus, in my climate, a dress is more comfortable than separates. I agree about feeling more polished and professional in a dress
