My Week in Pictures - Storm Edition

At the beginning of the week it felt like my world was getting back to normal...internet came back...crane got tied down so I could work in peace...so here are a few pics of my week...

Monday - the crane has been secured...

Tuesday - an election was won!

Wednesday - 4+ inches of snow fell...

Thursday - some fabric arrived...

3 yards of a faux leather

5 yards of a suiting wool

3 yards of a silk/cotton blend border print

3 yards of a rayon/wool tweed

Friday evening - an event for work...

Saturday - choosing some buttons for the B5760 cardigan

I'm moving garbage bags back into the sewing cave and unpacking them between sewing.  I've got the fever and want to get a few pieces made!

My Week in Pictures...

It started on Tuesday when I attended Susan Khaljie's class on "Sewing with Lace" at Mood.  I learned that I still have a lot to learn about constructing a garment using lace and realized that as good as my Trendy Lace dress looks, it could have been a whole lot better!  I saw some friends, Rosie, Clio, Marina and Oona and met a new one...hey Rhonda!  Thanks for reading!

My new Vogue Pattern Magazine came on Wednesday...and then on Thursday (after the sale ended!) the new patterns showed up on the site.  I  only like three of them...

Sorry Shams but I liked all the dresses! ;)

I also pulled fabric from the collection Thursday night...cause I'm sewing tops for the CIW collection this weekend...

From left to right: A cardigan from Butterick 5760,
a top from V1250 and a bow tie blouse from V8772

Then the new Talbots catalog was in the mail and I got a new dress idea (the bow dress on page 78)...so I will be in the shelves looking for some more fabric...I need something in burgundy and since I will have made three new tops, I can sew another dress that's not part of the collection, right?!

There were a few questions...

Jenn asked...
"I love those shoes, please, please tell me what label they are and if you bought them recently."
Jenn sorry I bought the shoes last season from The Avenue, can you believe it?!

Gaylen asked...
What I want to know how you get your running spaces such a consistent space and length?
I actually don't have a trick for this one. I just try to make the stitches consistent in length on one side and then I mirror the stitches on the other side.  The beginning of the stitches are actually a little crooked because I didn't start our using the tape...they got better after I applied the tape and began to stitch around it.

Tia Dia asked...
I wish there was an option on your blog to zoom in on the photos to get a good detailed look at your work...
Actually if you click the pictures they do get larger...but I'm including a close up picture of one of the better ones.

Please note that by no means do I think these are fabulous buttonholes, they are passable.  There was no way that I could rip out another set of buttonholes without ruining the fabric, so I went with good enough.  I have the concept down ~ now I need to practice, practice, practice so that my technique will improve.

And finally since Hurricane Sandy is coming to town Sunday...there may be no posts for a minute.  I'm praying that it's not as bad as the forecasts are making it sound but I feel like it's Irene all over again...so I will be protecting my sewing cave Sunday afternoon so that I don't lose anything precious...

A Tuesday in April

...or another day in real life...

Today wasn't a day that I was sitting behind my desk or at a conference room table.  Today was an active day, moving things around, arranging a conference room for a meeting, etc.  So I wore a comfortable outfit that is kinda business casual so that I wouldn't look too out of place for any visitors we might have on the floor, yet allowed me to be comfortable as I moved through my day...

Hands on hip

I'm wearing one of the many pairs of black wool crepe pants that I've made from my TNT pants pattern.  A Burda 8869 cardigan made from a beautiful rayon/lycra knit purchased from Elliot Berman that has no buttons or buttonholes on it.  Boy was I lazy that day!  But it worked just fine with the top and pants today. Finally the white shirt (Simplicity 2566) from my Lavender and Gray Wardrobe.  I've worn this top several times and love it!  I'm so happy that I have plenty of shirting cottons (purchased from Fabric Mart last year) to make a couple more.

So instead of sewing, I'm re-working the pieces in my wardrobe and wearing them in new ways!  BTW, Elizabeth this post is for you!  *LOL*  And Alicia, please leave your email in the comments so I can send you a message about how I insert the elastic in my pants...since you had some specific questions.

In Real Life - Part 2

This will not be a regular thing on my blog because we are starting to get really busy at work, so to stop and have pictures taken is just a little much.  However, my photographer (my boss John) was very willing this week so here are the garments I wore in real life this week....

Monday

Tuesday
worn with RTW Cardigan

Wednesday
worn with RTW Cardigan

Thursday
worn with RTW Cardigan

and I even have a Friday shot because yesterday was "Wear Red for Women's Heart Health Day" and I wore a reddish twinset with my jeans.  Yes, I've been in jeans on Fridays for the last few weeks because now that we are on another floor and don't see as many visitors, my area has taken to wearing jeans on Fridays.  So here is Friday's outfit:

Like I stated earlier, this will not become a regular feature on my blog, however, it will probably show up from time to time.  I'm definitely taking pics of the Lavender and Gray Skies wardrobe this weekend, so look for them soon!

In Real Life...

I've wanted to do this before but I never get a full week of pictures taken and I didn't this week either.  But I'm going to share the pics with you that I do have...

Monday
The revised MK dress
with a RTW cashmere turtleneck

Tuesday
(notice it's missing the great shoes)

Wednesday
I made this skirt 5 years ago
and am wearing it with a RTW twinset

Thursday - I wore a RTW sweater dress that I got for a song so no pic.  And today I wore jeans and a turtleneck with cardigan combination because we were cleaning out our storage room...and most of the staff was in jeans.

I called this post "In Real Life" because I find that many times I take pictures at home and I don't always bring "the look" to work for one reason or another...sometimes because I just don't want to cart my shoes with me that early in the morning! *LOL*  Sad to say I have 2 complete sets of shoes at work and home...

Anyway, it's Friday!  I'm home (jetted out of work as soon as I possibly could!) and I'm in the sewing cave with the heat pumping and the TV talking to me.  I'm going to cut my basics (skirt, dress, pants) out tonight so that I can start stitching in the morning.  I have no incentive to leave the house this weekend because the temps just plummeted here in my corner of the world and you know how much I hate the cold!

A parting shot:
A close up of my necklace ~ I love Heidi Daus jewelry and I just started collecting it. This is one of my favorite pieces and I love it against the Erdem inspired dress...
