Throwback Thursday #4

I made this top back in 2006 and I don't think I ever blogged it.  Well at least I can't find it on my blog! There are mentions of it but no finished top, probably due to the fact that my computer died right around that time.

I used Vogue 8118 for the top and it's out of print now.

The fabric is a rayon scarf print that I purchased for $1 a panel. I bought 4 panels from a shop in NYC that I don't believe exists anymore.  We just won't talk about how old this makes me feel *sigh* when I think of what 40th Street use to look like or how many fabric stores there use to be on the streets between 35th to 40th streets.

Since I have no blog post, I have no construction details to share because I don't remember sewing this. I do, however, remember being careful to cut the fabric to use it to it's best advantage.

So here are some pictures of me wearing it now with a pair of grey ponte legging jeans.

When I pulled out the file folder containing the pattern and pieces, I found a complete unused pattern in the folder along with the pattern I'd used. So if anyone in the US is interested in owning this pattern, leave a comment in the comment section by Saturday, October 17th at noon EST.  I'll pick a winner and post to the blog later that day.  Sorry but this drawing is only open to US citizens.

Finally, you know that my photographer comes with four little assistants. Today they were napping for a couple of the garments we photographed...well all except Miss Sammy.

Here's a picture of her trying to participate in the photos...

She's getting sooooo big! And spends all of her time following behind her big sister...I know you're not supposed to have a favorite grandchild...but I love this little girl sooooo much!

Throwback Thursday #3

Along with Closet Cull posts there will also be a couple of posts about garments that I found in the dark depths of my wardrobe that have been resurrected...rising to the front of the closet like the phoenix rising from the ashes. Or in short, I can wear them again. This is one of those posts...

I made this dress back in 2007. It was the very first time where I cut my TNT pattern apart. It was the beginning of a journey that not only expanded my creative sense but it helped me to sew better. I wore this dress for three years and then I started to gain weight. It no longer fit well through my abdomen and hips. But I just couldn't give it away because it held too much sentimental value.

Fast forward five years, 45 lbs lost and I can wear the dress again. Actually I could take in the side seams some...it's a tad loose. I also need to say that I only have a pair of spanx on under this dress. This is important because this is what I use to wear under my garments (minus the bye Dave lettering!)...

I would like to thank Tina Fey for standing in for me and on national TV at that, to share how even thin women hold themselves together under their clothing! Okay not all thin women, but my girl Tina Fey rocks!

Besides losing the weight and 75% of my wardrobe, I've lost all but the spanx in my lingerie/undergarment drawer. It's been a really strange year, to say the least. May I also emphatically state that even with the weight loss, I'm still plus size. Honestly, I'm not trying to become a size 10 so if you're holding your breathe waiting for it or betting on it happening...stop it ain't gonna. See to look decent as a size 10, surgery would be involved, and if I had that kinda money, I would buy the new Janome Memory Craft 15000 first! I have priorities people! *LOL*

Here are a few more peeks at the dress...

I love a good pink dress. I will more than likely take the seams in a little since I've decided to go for it and lose the last 20 lbs the doctor recommends. Hey, I've already lost most of my me mades might as well go for it...crossing the finish line with a total weight loss of 65 lbs! I'm sure by the moaning & groaning, you'll know when I've arrived. *LOL*

Throwback Thursday #1

I found this skirt when I was emptying out one of those garage fabric bins...

I made it from a wool/cotton blend purchased from Fabric Mart back in 2006. It was part of a SWAP wardrobe called "Pinstripe Falling Into Spring." which was entered in the Timmel Swap contest that year.

The pattern is my TNT four gore skirt pattern. It's one of the first ones I made from the altered pattern. However, when you flip it inside out, the time I took with the construction and finishing of this simple skirt, makes me feel really good about my sewing.

Let me share some of those details with you....

skirt hem with lining

hemline with folded rayon seam tape finish

Waistline turned under and finished with folded rayon seam tape

My label added to the back of the waistline casing

...and this is how I plan on wearing the skirt now.

Using a RTW Isaac Mitzrahi cardigan from QVC (I'm honestly addicted to these cardigans because of their fit and stylishness!) to achieve the latest trend of coordinating prints and stripes.

Most of this SWAP collection no longer exists in my wardrobe.  Some pieces were donated right away and others have just melted away over the years.  I do still have the solid brown skirt and wore it last winter. Now that I've found this one, it will make it's way back into my clothing rotation.

That's my garment for "Throwback Thursday."  Periodically I will highlight other pieces in my closet that are several years old and still being worn!
