Simple Pattern + Me = Complicated

Yes, that's right!  I took a very easy pattern and turned it into a complicated situation.  How did I do that you ask?  First I used a woven for a pattern that requires a stable knit...yeah, noticed that little fact after I cut the dress out!  Second, I added a lining to a pattern that doesn't require one...and then I botched the way the facing is supposed to be added...

Butterick 5415 isn't ruined but it isn't finished either...because I complicated it!  Here's where it stands right now...

I'm taking a break...reading some blogs...getting myself together and generally enjoying the quiet that is my apt right now.  Then I will go back in and make it work!  *LOL*

...more later!

  2. I'm reading blogs now because I cocked up the cutting out of a jacket lining. It must be something in the air.

  6. That top is looking pretty wonderful to me and that fabric is lovely. Anyway, don't they say that what the pattern says is just a suggestion ......?

  7. SO pretty fabric!! Aren't we all good at making somethings simple crazy complicated? When it isn't frustrating, that's one of the things I love about sewing!

  8. Rules are made to be broken! I'm sure you will work it out. Still, I know how frustrating those "creative options" can be!

  9. I hope that your frustration is over by now or you are still enjoying the quiet. As Tim Gunn and you said, "make it work".

  10. The fabric is beautiful. I can see why you wanted to use it. I'm not at all worried about your ability to "make it work".

  11. You are one gutsy lady when it comes to sewing, and I admire that! This top (I'm assuming it's not a dress!) looks fine . . . I love the fabric! Keep pushing through this . . . can't wait to see the finished project!

  12. I love the fabric....but I know how you feel. One to many ornery projects and I need to take a breather. See when you return!

  13. You must save it! That fabric is so right now.

  14. LOL, I know exactly what you mean! I am constantly taking very easy projects and using fabrics that make me crazy, or adding underlinings, or changing the orientation of the pieces to suit me...and in the end, spend weeks doing a project that should have taken hours, at the most!

  18. Although you've placed your top on "pause" I like where's it at so far. I know you'll work it all out. Your work is always so beautiful:)

  19. I know exactly what you mean. It only takes me a minute to overthink a pattern or instructions. Sometimes trying to take a simple pattern to another level really gets me in trouble.
