I did take pictures of various parts of the construction and they are included here. Modeled photos will show up sooner or later...
The neckline was large and stretched out
so I added a basting line to the neckline
Then after pulling the threads, I pressed the neckline
back into shape. This is just one way to do this.
I decided I wanted more houndstooth to show on the sleeve.
Inserting the lining into the dress shell
Adding rayon seam binding to the dress's hem
I had no more black ambiance lining
so I used a steel blue instead
Front of the dress lined
Still need the sleeves added
and the dress hemmed
Back of dress with a curved zipper
that somehow works when the dress is on.
I have a few Christmas pieces that I want to sew...but they are simple and may or may not make an appearance on the blog. Most of the pieces now clamoring to the front of my brain and begging to be made are simple separates. Garments that will go with pieces already living in my closet, so they will probably be quick sews.
I know that my blogging has been scanty of late and this will probably continue through the end of the year. Lately I just don't feel as if I have much to say and since I'm also not sewing, there aren't any blog posts. Just don't want anyone to be concerned if it gets quiet here for a minute, I'm not giving up on blogging just taking some time to recharge.

I think it's getting to that time of the year Carolyn where there simply doesn't seem to be enough time and there's so much else on our minds to contend with. We go sew at 100% all the time and we all need a little time out for we simply burn out. So you enjoy your time and the pace your working at as I know I don't mind and I'm sure others won't either.
ReplyDeleteI too need a couple of separate pieces... top of the list being a simple black skirt as I've been making (not blogged yet) a couple o knit tops and I really want a plain and simple skirt to wear with them. Might have to put the skirt to the top of my sewing list for my next project. Looking forward to seeing what separates you decide to make for yourself :)
Yes I'm feeling the same way too - slow on the sewing and lacking in words for the blog. Quality over quantity I say!

And about the blog ... most of us are in a fog about reading them right now, too! I know I have a lot on my plate and when I do, the internet goes to the wayside. Life isn't all about production (much as we wanted those 30 garments yesterday) as it is the process. Yeah. I know. I hate that too, sometimes. But I still remind myself of it! Here's to enjoying other pieces of your life outside of the sewing cave.

ReplyDeleteIt's looking good Caroyn. Funny, but like you, I'm not getting a lot of sewing done. I think I'm procrastinating. I agreed to sew a winter coat for my sister's grand-daughter and after spending $100.00 on the fabric,etc., I'm scared to death to start cutting!!! Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Black Friday has found it's way to Canada, so I spent a lot of money on line, Lol!
ReplyDeleteSewing is not about how fast can you finish your project, its about how you applied the so called "love" with every steps you've made, just like what you did there, well even though your quite slow still you did great at all.
