Addiction
These 17 pieces of fabric have shown up from Fabric Mart and fabric.com in the last six weeks. They are a mixture of ponte, wovens, maybe a knit piece or two, and denim. Kristin asked about my fabric purchasing in a couple of posts back since I hadn't posted many fabric acquisitions lately. So I thought I would share that I'm still addicted.
Oh and let's not forget these two pieces recently purchased from Metro Textiles...
I'm trying to make a conscious decision to buy less...skipping more of Fabric Mart's sales...though it's been hard lately since they've been running so many amazing sales. I try to tell myself that I already own some of whatever I'm looking at, because usually I do. But every once in awhile I'll find pieces that either call to me or are what I've been thinking about using and they aren't in the collection...so I buy them.
Mostly though I wrote this post for me. This week at work, I was handed our meeting schedule for April and May. Let's just say that I'm going to spend a lot of time at work during the next 8 weeks, which has caused me to cancel my vacation in May, and may mean that I will be sleeping more on the weekends instead of sewing. I even have to work tomorrow...*sigh* So I wrote this post to remind myself NOT to buy fabric since I won't be sewing. Hopefully being able to look at these photos will help me not to load my cart on my favorite fabric internet sites and pull the trigger...hopefully!
BTW, Fabric Mart is having a wonderful sale on linen 40% off and an additional 20% off their 50% off category. Do me a favor? Go over there and buy up the yardage so I won't be tempted to! *LOL*
...as always more later!

Boo on you having to work tomorrow. Doing my part and heading to Fabric Mart right now. :)
ReplyDeleteToday I felt like an addict. I knew the Fed Ex man would be arriving around 10. I had the front door unlocked and was sitting in the dining room waiting. I don't think the package fully touched the ground before I was out there! :)
ReplyDeleteWorking on a Sunday?! :-( sorry. Even if your mojo is disrupted I know we will be seeing stuff flying out when you're back.
And hold on, canceled vacay?! Say it ain't so!!!!
Also, I always get a package and then see someone get a fabric I had but "put back" and then I want it! Like that blue and black geometric knit ;-)
DeleteNakisha - those pontes are so nice that I bought some and then went back and bought one more! I'd taken that one out of my cart too! *LOL*
DeleteThe pontes are hard to resist especially when they are so nicely done. I grabbed the blue and the grey with black diamonds. Love them!
DeleteOh, Carolyn, so sorry you have to cancel your May vacation and work so many long hours! I certainly understand that you probably won't be sewing as many of your delicious garments but please post whenever you can. Your sewing posts (with or w/o garments are always interesting.
ReplyDeleteKaren
Oh, no, I'm sorry you're so busy right now! Hopefully you'll still find some time for yourself!
ReplyDeleteoh dear, I am sorry you have s busy time at work coming up. I know what you mean about Fabric Mart. They do have some amazing sales. (I bought some of the pontes, too!)
ReplyDeletealready sent in my Fabric Mart order early this morning! Hope it helps!
ReplyDeleteJust brought some ITY knit and shirting fabric. I love Fabric Mart. Opening an email from them is definitely dangerous for a fabric addict. I feel your pain! Lol.
ReplyDeleteSorry your work is so time consuming now. I know all too well how that feels. If shipping wasn't so expensive I' d help you with buying ;)
ReplyDeleteI had a package arrive from Fabric Mart this week also. I try to say no but sometimes I'm not as strong as I need to be...LOL
ReplyDeleteRachelle - I know! I so understand that!!!
DeleteI was in the same boat, but because all of my fabric stash and sewing stuff has to fit in a closet in my son's room (AKA my sewing nirvana while he's in school) I'm now thinking long and hard about where it's all going to go!
ReplyDeleteI filled up a Fabric Mart cart on Friday and left it to marinate. Hopefully the sale will be over whenever I decide to go back to look in that cart.
ReplyDeleteBeen there, done that...bought the cart! *LOL*
DeleteLol.......I also got my FabricMart and I also purchased lots and lots of ponte knits during the %40 off sale (including that black, red and cream striped knit that I see you also bought). I am so happily surprised at the quality of these knits. I am also excited to see what I make from all of this fabric.
ReplyDeleteAren't these the softest, prettiest pontes! I'm really hoping that they wear well and won't pill easily. I love sewing and wearing ponte, so you know I had to get several of those. So glad I wasn't alone!!!
DeleteI'm sorry you will be so busy. At least you know ahead of time. I haven't been doing much fabric shopping, but my last order from Emma One Sock is staring at me. I told it I have to wait until I finish a couple other items for my boys and hubby, but it keeps taunting me.
ReplyDeleteAnnette - glad to know that I'm not the only one that fabric talks to!
DeleteI've also been addicted to FM ever since I met you at the PR weekend in Philly several years ago. In fact I also have some of that polka dot flocked ponte in your picture. I say the same thing...no more purchases... then Julie's Picks just arrived. How can I resist?
ReplyDeleteCarole - but we went to Jomars on that trip and I love them just as much as I love Fabric Mart. The difference is that I can't visit them on my iPad in the middle of the night!
DeleteIck! No fun cancelling your vacation! I gave up fabric purchases for Lent and the sale Fabric Mart has been having are rough for me too. I spy some fabrics in your purchases that I had been tempted by.
ReplyDeleteSarah - sorry to add to your temptation!
DeleteI discovered Fabric Mart a few months ago and I have already placed like five orders with them. I have some of that charcoal/black dot ponte coming to me too! Great fabrics.
ReplyDelete'Cancelled your vacation' ~ that's what I call a real 'working holiday' ... YUK!!! You really will be looking forward to your next break away from work, holed up in your beautiful sewing room ... J
ReplyDeleteOh Carolyn!! You are bad! Just when I've been making progress in not buying fabrics, you post this and make my mouth water! Guess where I'm headed? Yep. To fabricmart.com!
ReplyDeleteWould you prefer email reminders FROM ME saying, "Good morning, Carolyn! It's your lucky day!!! You can sew just about anything you'd like, for any season of the year, without leaving the comfort of home! Your stash is waiting..." I'm happy to help, just say the word! ;)
ReplyDeleteI am working today too. Sitting here at the computer waiting for the call to tell me to start testing. I am obviously doing other thing too. I bought that grey textured knit , on the top of your pile, several weeks go.But I guess I didn't buy enough to deplete the supply.
ReplyDeleteCaroline, so sorry you have to work. But I completely understand. I've worked this morning as well, hoping that I will be able to sew a few evenings this week. I hope the next 8 weeks pass quickly for you. And you'll be sewing in your dreams!!
ReplyDeletei will buy some fabric in your honor!
ReplyDeleteLast night was a bad one for online sewing purchases. spent a lot of time reading Dolly Crockett, who has a similar novelty print/dress problem to mine, and now I am doing extra job work on Sunday to pay for it. Well, I did have yesterday off.....
ReplyDeleteI just received that 5 yards of fabric last week and I want to use it! But I've got so much other stupidity to deal with right now, in order to have time to get going on a new project, so I can understand how that happens. Sucks about cancelling your vacation. I know how you love that May vacation. Hopefully your work project will be interesting, at least.
ReplyDeleteOh... the joy of looking at your fabric porn. I avoid the online stores, because I am constantly in the brick & mortar stores. .. gah. But I agree being able to look at your fabric when you can't sew is a beautiful thing.
ReplyDeleteCarolyn -
ReplyDeleteI don't know how you do it. When in the world to you sleep? I am waiting anxiously to see the wonderful things that you will be making with all this great new fabric.
My first fabric.com order arrived the other day - I was so excited and happy! Even if you have lots of fabric, there's still joy in getting more. And the best thing is that it will wait until you're ready to use it
ReplyDeleteI have the brown fabric second from bottom on the right. It has not aged enough for me to sew. Quite a fabric collection you got there. Hopefully you will have some time after your hectic upcoming work schedule to put that sewing machine on fast forward!
ReplyDeleteJust lovely pieces. I am ordering today, but I shouldn't, I think I have enough fabric in my life. Wait did I just say that!
ReplyDeleteI have been ignoring FM' s sales and only buying fabrics on my list. I think I've done pretty good so far this year as last year I had a shipment coming every other week!
ReplyDeleteOn no! That's awful that you have to cancel vacation! Yeah, the sales really have been good lately, haven't they??
ReplyDeleteI ordered six shirt-lengths of linen. Linen is a basic fabric for me and mine, and I've been pleased with all the linen they've sent me.
ReplyDeleteHearth - I like their linen too! Also having Mr. Fedex Man drop it off is a lot easier than carting it home on the bus from the garment district!
DeleteEmail is the biggest temptress for me when it comes to fabric acquisition. Everyday, I see the sales I'm missing out on. It's so hard to keep myself from buying. I don't want to miss out on a good deal. And, I'll use it....eventually. Right?
ReplyDeleteWhoa, do I understand or what... My pile of fabric MUST shrink immediately. Not only do I have too much fabric, I have very specific plans for ALL of it. I just have to whip out my scissors and get to it!
ReplyDeleteCarolyn, you are not alone. I just wrote about my ITY knit addiction on my blog. I am seriously addicted to ITY knit prints and Fabric Mart is one of my main sources. One thing about this addiction though is that it is not harmful to anything other than my pocketbook.
ReplyDeleteAh, you are not alone! Fabric stores are like my Mecca, I have to make my weekly pilgrimage. And, of course, once I am there, I have to buy a little fabric for some magical future project :)
