A list and some free time

Okay more like a couple of days off for Memorial Day weekend...but I do have a list! A sewing list that is...and except for the fact that I babysat the grandbabies last night for their parents date night...I'm staying home to sew.

One of the good things about my job now is that I no longer work the horrible hours I use to, so I haven't felt the need to hunker down and sew. In my old life, that would happen every three months like clockwork. Now that I have my life back, I don't feel that need as greatly anymore.

However, the feeling is here and very strong my fellow sewing friends. So I'm going to spend the weekend buried in the sewing cave, working on a few things from my list.  Because I'm sewing for the weekend, that will mean no pics and no blog posts...but if you follow me on Instagram, I will more than likely send some update posts or food requests through there! hahahahahaha!

I worked on this pattern last weekend ~

Which resulted in this dress ~

...and even though it's been hanging for a week...I'm still not sure I like it...because it needs something. I will address this dress this weekend too.

Anyway, just wanted to drop in and let you know that I'm around, sewing, and I'll be back with some finished garments soon!

If you're in the US, hope you have an amazing Memorial Day weekend!

...as always more later!

  1. Lovely dress. Maybe add green or blue piping around the neckline. I love the fabric and how you used it.

  2. You dress looks great for a casual work place! The fabric is gorgeous and if you add more impact, it could then be too fancy for your workplace. You might consider big earrings and some statement turquoise - both colorful and casual. Melinda G. (BTW, I cannot figure out how to comment with my name on your blog, even though I have a google email.)

  5. Leave the dress as it is and add a cobalt blue silk scarf or statement necklace ?
Otherwise some blue trim or blue buttons or sew in jewels round the neckline.

  6. Wow, I love that dress as is. Would you like it better with an attached band at the bottom in the less-densely floral or even white portion of the fabric - anywhere from two to four inches??

  7. This is pretty dress. I don't feel like it needs anything else; the fabric is star of the show. I agree with SewRuthie, that maybe a statement necklace may do the trick for you. Just my humble opinion.

  8. Break it up at the waist seam? Or pick up the blue or green at the neckline with trim. Any of the border left for any of this? If not, I think matching the colors might take all the juice out of it for you.

And more happy belated birthday. You and I are the same age now! 57 has been pretty good so far, I recommend it.

  9. The dress looks great! I don't feel that it needs anything else, that fabric does it all. Maybe try it on with a necklace before you do anything else.

  10. We all like what we like and I very much like this dress. I agree with most of the comments that the fabric and the artful way you placed it carries the dress. Enjoy wearing it as is or improved, it is beautiful.

  12. From Creative Hormone Rush: I love this fabric's increasingly dense floral pattern. It probably does need a little something to round out the look, but choosing that final touch can sometimes be a challenge. Of all the colors you could highlight in this fabric, the dramatic blue would probably give the most pop, yes? And the scale of the addition could be any size. A chunky bracelet in that bright blue might be nice. Or how about continuing on and making that cute little jacket in a matching bright blue? It's a nice timeless style with simple lines that could go with other outfits, too. This may be one of those "you'll know it when you see it" times. It'll be fun to see what you do.

  13. I love the dress s is, but maybe a grosgrain ribbon at the seamline (between bodice and skirt)? Boden does that a lot and i love it. Love the print placement.

  14. The dress is beautiful. Maybe some blue piping at neck, armholes, and between bodice and skirt at midriff

  15. Love how you handle a border print and I agree with Eileen Payne - grosgrain at the seam.

  16. DON'T add anything!!! Love the border placement!

  17. Like others said, my first thought was blue or green piping, but how about try it on first and wear a blue or green necklace? That might be all it *needs*

    It's a beautiful dress

  19. Great dress! I love the way you used the border print! Add a blue and green statement neckline and solid color shrug and you will be good to go.
