I will try to keep to a posting schedule of every 2-3 days which means that quite a few of these will be process posts. If you're looking for a little escape and a burrowing into our hobby, I'm here to share that journey with you. I'm here to make our self quarantines a little easier, to ease some of our fears, and to share a little sewing joy.
In front of my computer working from home and sewing late into the evening!
There are several of my sewing sistahs and brothers who are blogging more now too. If you can, please follow along, leave a comment if possible, or just take a moment to read. There is so much information being thrown at us through other sources that I'd like this blog to be a calming place...so that's how I'm moving forward.
Hope you'll be along for the ride...
...as always more later!
Carolyn, I am right along with you. I have been somewhat (?) blessed with this time off and am sewing away. There will definitely be more posts more often. I think we are all trying to communicate more through this and can really help each other out. I too will have process posts and some opinion posts as well as I am sure you will also. I look forward to whatever you put up. Take care, stay healthy, and wash those sewing hands!!!
ReplyDeleteBunny - yes, I think we can help each other in our community by sharing our projects! Looking forward to your blog posts!
DeleteThank you! I always use your blog as the 'gateway' to other blogs. It's good to be able to get away from the noise when we can.
ReplyDeleteDenise - I'm glad that my blog gives you access to other sewists blogs!
DeleteLooking forward to it, sadly I'm a required worker (teacher) so no working from home for me yet but I'm expecting it coming soon. Looking forward to being at home doing some sewing to switch off from it all so your blog will be a very welcome distraction x
ReplyDeleteThank you, Carolyn, for your always inspiring posts, whether they be about sewing or not. I'm in one of the SF Bay Area counties that have been ordered to self-isolate for at least three weeks at home. Fortunately for my sewing, knitting, and needlework, I'm not going to be bored. Oh, yes, tax prep too, though that is always not fun, whether we're self-isolating or not! Looking forward to those process oriented posts, and, definitely, reveal of your final product, always exciting.
ReplyDeletewenhkc - it's coming this way too the enforced self-isolate. We already have a curfew in NJ so any distraction I can provide...
DeleteThank you for the inspiration and much wanted distraction!
ReplyDeleteI can't tell you how happy I am to be able to tune into your blog for a hit of exactly what you propose!! Thank you, thank you. Your thoughts on all things sewing are so appreciated. I especially love your "big thoughts" posts and questions to readers, and anything about your beautiful sewing cave, including the collection!
ReplyDeleteThanks Carolyn. Reading your blog is so much fun, especially at this time with all the craziness going on. Distance or no distance I am looking forward to spring and sewing spring. Hope you are too!
ReplyDeleteAdore your hashtag and the sewing joy you always bring. Am also trying to look at this time as an opportunity to get some of those projects checked off the to-do list and will be sewing and blogging more. Look forward to seeing what you are up to during this time. Hugs!!! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, as always, for your inspiration and creativity. More blogging is a silver lining to this corona virus isolation.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to more blog posts. I'm one of those at-risk people and I'll only be leaving the house for walks and bike rides (hurry up sweater weather!). Thank goodness for PDF patterns. Hope everyone has a nice sized stash to work from.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Carolyn, for your wonderful posts! Today was my last day at work until we get the "all clear" and I am very happy. A great deal of my anxiety just fell away. I look forward to seeing your more frequent posts...as always.
ReplyDeleteKathie
Carolyn, I always appreciate both your creativity and skill, and your thoughful words. Every day I check your blog to read what you have shared, so more posts, and more process posts are a welcome delight in these uncertain times
ReplyDeleteThanks for the post Carolyn. I have a post all set to go and I just haven't been able to hit publish. It's a sewing post and I guess I've felt that my brief mention of the virus is both too little and too much. I do feel anxiety and 'burrowing' into sewing blogs gives me comfort. I appreciate how you've acknowledged what's going on without making me more anxious.
ReplyDeleteSue - this is what will help the members of our community so hit publish! I know for myself I need a respite from what's happening. I don't want to ignore it but it helps to have something to balance that out! So as long as I can I will be here! Love & Peace to you!
DeleteI didn't know your blog before this comment, so please, do hit publish!
DeleteAnd Carolyn, thank you for this post, and for promising to post frequently going forward. I'm retired and burrowing into my home, planting vegetable seeds on the patio so I don't have to shop much and finding other ways to avoid contact. My husband will celebrate three quarters of a decade tomorrow, and I'm secretly wondering if it will be his last. Reading about normal things like pattern alteration and fabric manipulation is a balm for my soul. It makes me feel connected to the world of Before. Thank you. :-)
I'm definitely along for the ride.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I love your in progress blogs.
ReplyDeleteI'm in the medical field and have a whole new level of stress at work! Finding refuge in sewing and reading sewing blogs. Thanks for being such an inspiration--your blog is the perfect mix of sewing and life thoughts/wisdom.
ReplyDeleteReally happy to read this, Carolyn! I’m along for the ride anywhere you sew. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for this. I have been pretty stressed out. I know that sewing can make me feel better. I am going to follow you lead. I want to post more positive sewing pictures on Instagram. Be well.
ReplyDeleteSew on...
ReplyDeleteHave a great day doing what you love.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this post and for all you do. Strange times indeed. Maybe I can muster the oomph to find out what actually is in my stash...Ha! I think you always strike the right note and I'll be with you.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this. I will be following you as always! Just visited my local sewing shop and stocked up with fabric for my #sewathome.
ReplyDeleteAs always, you are such an inspiration. Thank you for all you do.
ReplyDeletewhat a relief to talk about something other than illness! i'm going to restyle an ugly dress into a maxiskirt and do some major patching/mending while confined to home; also my garden needs weeding so this is a good time to work on that.--anne
ReplyDeleteSewing stories = Joy to the world! Thank you! Smiles!
ReplyDeleteWe are living in interesting times and I need a break so I'm coloring and sewing and sew on. i look forward to all of your posts so I'm glad to see more of them for now. Happy Sewing, Carolyn.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Carolyn. I appreciate always your posts, but more now, since we are isolated since last friday. Warm greetings from Barcelona.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Carolyn, I am very appreciative and am looking forward to your posts.
ReplyDeletePS - Is there a way to search older posts for a particular topic? Thanks
Peg - my sidebar has all of my subjects in it. Things are listed by pattern numbers, fabric companies, and then some titles. I would click on one of them to find what you're looking for.
DeleteThank you! It will be a lot more fun to read your posts than so many, many others. And I do appreciate the suggestions for other blogs.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you, and others, will be posting a bit more while working from home. I'm very sad about the reason for the more frequent posting schedules though.
ReplyDeleteAny distractions are welcome! Hearing reports often is causing anxiety, we need positive vines, so blog on and keep calm!Did I just coin a new phrase? Lol!
ReplyDeleteI always look forward to seeing what you're sewing! Keep it coming!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Carolyn, for continuing to blog and keeping it a sewing blog. We sure need this to keep us inspired, Karen
ReplyDeleteCalming is good. Healthy caution is good; scare tactics never are. Looking forward to seeing what comes out of the sewing cave next! Happy Wednesday, Carolyn.
ReplyDeleteHi
ReplyDeleteI would love to learn to use a sewing machine but having no experience I really need to know which machine is best for a beginners beginner. Thank you.
Fiona
Fiona - there are loads of sewing bloggers out there with this info in their FAQs. I would recommend checking Erica Bunker's FAQs - her blog is EricaBunker.com or I would check out MimiG's Sewing Academy or YouTube series for more information.
DeleteSo nice to see more people who sew, I sew both outside my home and inhome, hope to stay home in the near future fulltime. I make a lot of different things, with my experience in Industrial and Domestic I have a lot to offer.
ReplyDeletePraying for comfort for those who can not do what we can I too am working from home, and hoping as much as I am enjoying this break that it will all work out for everyone. Just stay safe, and hope we No know that we will all get through this. Pegeth
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea. Sewing for me is a tranquilizer and an income. Everybody needs a break so this is one way. Stay safe everyone and together we can get through this.
ReplyDeleteIt'll be great to see you more often. There's something about your energy that resonates with me. Even though I sew few clothes, and I wouldn't be comfortable in some of the structured garments you make, I enjoy your blog. From sewing for yourself or your grandaughters to your sewing retreats, and also your politics, your posts are always insteresting and inspiring.
ReplyDeleteThank you. It is hard to stay positive with all the news - even if you avoid listening to or watching the news, everyone wants to talk about how this has changed our lives. Keep your spirits up and stay safe and healthy!
ReplyDeleteThank you. I really appreciate all the posts on your blog (sewing, political, social) and value your voice. I am also glad that you are helping this corner of the internet by bringing some joy and some calmness. I don't know if you can see viewership from Feedly, but that is how I read your posts. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteWhile the cause isn't something to shout about, I am really, really looking forward to reading your blog! Sending good wishes and healthy vibes from Munich, Germany, where we are now in complete lockdown (a good thing, really! #flattenthecurve)
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to reading lots of posts over the coming weeks. We are about to go into lock down over here so I will lots of time. Thanks. Sam from Australia
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to reading your blog and getting back to normal life.
ReplyDeleteI could not be more thrilled that you'll blog more. I've been sent home too and am digging back into sewing in a big way ..... I don't have to spend an hour in the car every day or as much time ironing shirts for work or quick drying my hair SO I'm claiming all the time for sewing/stress relief!!
ReplyDeleteSewists are sewing masks for local hospitals and other health care locations. The masks don't replace N95 masks, but can extend the life of N95 masks, be used for patients and are better than nothing. Health care locations are begging for sewists to join the effort. Elastic is in very short supply! Please encouage your readers to either sew masks or donate their stash of 1/8 and 1/4 inch elastic to sewist groups joining the effort.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
