Late on a Thursday Evening...

I've got nuthin' people...absolutely nuthin'.  I haven't sewn since I made my Mood garment last week and I have absolutely no sewing mojo.  None, nada, zippo.

I've only got today off - back to work tomorrow and I spent most of my day continuing to stuff fabric back into the sewing workroom.

I'm tired of this and just want it to be done.  There are 8 large garbage bags left in the dining room that I'm thinking of putting out with the garbage in the morning because I'm so done with this.  And that's my last comment about this because I KNOW that I bought all of that dayum fabric...

I took a picture of this dress when I was at DressBarn last weekend...

I found fabric in the collection to make it but I'm not sure if I want to now.  I also found this black 'n white linen print that I wanted to sew up.

I was thinking about coloring in the dots with my fabric markers but when I went to try them out, they've dried out.  So I put the fabric back on the wall.

There's a lot of I's in this post but I'm gonna add one more...I think I'm going to suspend fabric restoration this weekend and see if I can make something simple...anything simple...to see if that will help me get out of this fabric coma that I'm in and kickstart my creativity.

Just wanted to give an update because this is my last quiet week at work...the following four weeks are going to be crazy...by then it will be the middle of August and three weeks before my vacay...my sewing vacay *sigh* I've got to get inspired...

Oh and I'm actually liking Bloglovin.  I downloaded the app onto my iPad and it's really easy to read blogs that way.  Thanks to everyone who is following me there. I'll add buttons for it and Feedly to my blog this weekend...thanks Claire for sending those along to me!

...as always more later!

  1. I hate that you are feeling so down in the dumps about sewing. I do hope the workroom is working out. Did you toss the dried out markers?

I just want to play with fabric and the Princess is in town for 10 days - so.... I might have just ordered enough knits for 6 new dresses - maybe. g

  2. that feeling is horrible because its like we feel guilty for NOT sewing...its funny how sewing has us hooked on it to where we don't "feel right" if we don't have a newly sewn garment! lol...I will wait patiently for your next project...;)

  3. Can you just dump the bags in the sewing studio for now? Good idea to plan a quick sew rather than more of what is getting you down. Good luck.

  4. I'm Sending an order of sewing mojo your way. Please do not throw out the last 8 bags of fabric because you are sniffing at victory.

  5. You are almost done. Do hope your mojo returns and the quick sew sounds like the answer. Leave the remaining bags till another day :) or until you are looking for that perfect piece of fabric!

  6. Hang in there Carolyn. You've done alot already. It's always hardest just before hit gets done.

  7. Okay. An experiment. Imagine taking those eight bags of fabric to the curb and walking away. Just how many steps away do you think you'd get before you started wondering...? I think your plan B is a good one. Make something simple in your favorite color and promise yourself that you will wear it next Monday. Hang in there--you're within reach of the top of this mountain.

  8. If I live near you I'll come help you....kind of a pay-it-forward sort of thing!

(but since you do not talk about familiar sounding stores I don't think we live in proximity? Los Angeles?)

    Best wishes, Claire :)

  10. Hi Carolyn, please, please please don't lose your sewing mojo, you are such an inspiration and I love seeing your stunning outfits. Hopefully once the fabrics all away you'll be back on top form. Take care Julie

  12. Maybe you need to try sewing something different. Are there any accessories or home decor items that you're interested in making? Or creative pursuits other than sewing you might feel like trying out?

  13. People give up because they don't know how close they are to success.

I reading 'the war of art' yesterday. The author says Resistance is strong especially when you are so close to being done.

I like the idea of leaving the bags as they are or dumping them somewhere else, say a guest room may be and get cracking in the newly arranged sewing room.

  14. There are no fabric police that says you have to get all the fabric back in place before you can sew. Why not try one bag a day? Less daunting that way and much easier to meet your goal.

  15. That linen print is fabulous! Here's hoping you get your sewjo back soon (I know you will, but still).

  16. If putting those 8 bags away is too much for you.... I'll come and take them off your hands for you....

  17. Carolyn, How about if you plan on putting one bag away per week and one each weekend for the next four weeks. Maybe that way it wouldn't feel so overwhelming and you could still have time to sew each weekend. I use to use that strategy when I was teaching and had a lot if grading essays, etc.
to do and it calmed my stress so I could function better. Just a thought!

  18. Yeah, and here I am complaining cause I had to fold 20 yards of pre washed fabric this morning. Hope you get your mojo back and please let us know of your progress.

  19. You're funny. If you put those fabric bags in the trash, I bet you'd just drag them out again. Carolyn, I think you might just be tired. You have had a stressful time. I like the dress and the linen fabric. Any chance you could post how to add buttons and Feedly for bloglovin. I'm still trying to figure out bloglovin - there probably are others who are experiencing the same thing. Have a great weekend whatever you decide to do!

  20. I feel your pain! After I have a really active creative period, I also don't want to see the sewing machine again. Just give it time and you'll see, you'll make some more fantastic outfits!

  21. Sew something small and easy. nothing restores motivation like success. And I'm with Nancy K. Do it little by little. When I have that kind of humongous task, I either break into units (like one bag a day) or time periods ("I'll do it for twenty minutes a day till it's finished".) The task always melts away under my eyes/hands.

  22. I was just down in NJ, and I should have stopped by to help! Keep at it, b/c you are almost done, and you will feel SOOOO good when you have the sewing cave looking the way you want.

  23. Lol, I kept thinking the same thing when I got sick of putting fabric back on the shelves or in bins. I was pulling out fabric to give a way and I think some extra fabric got a new home because I was sick of the whole thing. At one point, I wanted to throw everything out the window. This will end.

    Enjoy your weekend sewing.
