A Long Weekend

This weekend is Memorial Day Weekend in the United States and besides the very important meaning of Memorial Day (where we celebrate the present and past members of the US Armed Forces who gallantly serve our country!) it also means that most companies have a three day weekend.  Now I know that this weekend is the unofficial start to summer and many people will be heading out to enjoy the weekend...I will, however, celebrate in my sewing room.

I don't know about anyone else but several days of sewing brings a calmness to my soul and smoothes out all of the craziness of my work days...and lately those have been a little crazier than usual.  My plan is to finish up the "ala Chanel Dress", finish up the pants that go with this wardrobe and hopefully get another dress from my list made up.  That's my realistic plan.  My unrealistic plan is that I finish those pieces and at least another two dresses from my list...that I basically eat, sleep and sew in my sewing room...pure heaven in my world!

Now I know that is totally unrealistic but it gives me something to strive for now doesn't it!  *LOL*  My daughter will be by on Monday afternoon so I'll have some pictures of the last few pieces...and hopefully another Little Prince sighting.

So you know where I'll be this weekend...how about you?  If you're in the U.S., I hope that you have a wonderful, relaxing, sewing-filled weekend...and if not I hope you have a great weekend anyway!

...as always, more later!

  1. Good luck with the sewing. If I am a good girl I will be sorting my wardrobe and cleaning the garage!

  2. I'll be in the sewing room - but STILL UNPACKING. Arghh. My goal is to get it completely unpacked this long weekend so that I can actually start sewing in it by next weekend, which is also a long weekend for me and starts on Wednesday. :-) Can't wait to see what comes out of your studio this weekend.

On a personal note, thanks for all the support comments during my move. Very appreciated! I haven't had much time to visit blogs and comment, but I've been thinking of ya!

  8. I am with you, my plans are to sew all weekend. I am working on my daughters prom dress so I will be dedicating my entire weekend to this project.

  9. I'm finally making the darn curtain panels for the daughter's bedroom. She bought curtains for the other rooms. JB hurt his back, so I'm also playing nursemaid. I'm hoping to finish up the curtains and start sewing for me again this weekend.

I was thinking of you as I wanted a dress yesterday and stood in my closet thinking - I have nothing to wear! g

  10. Carolyn, I like your plan for the Memorial Day weekend. Mines will be an abbreviation of yours because I plan to spend Monday with my family. But to make up for it, I took Tuesday off. Lol Now that I'm finished with the prom dresses, my mind is free to think about other projects. So I hope you have an enjoyable time in your sewing room. Happy Memorial Day!

  11. I too feel as you do about being in my studio creating, designing, and or sewing. Especially sewing when the creative juices are flowing. So thearapeutic.

  13. Good luck with your ambitious plans. My late husband was a Viet Nam veteran and I will definitely take a few moments to remember him! Then, I will be putting together a charity quilt for someone who needs to be comforted as they heal or are in hospice. Happy Memorial Day to everyone and be careful on the roads!

  14. I have a ASG meeting tomorrow and church Sunday. I hope to spend the rest of the time in my sewing room except when DGD wants my attention.

  15. I am going to be sewing for my daughter all weekend, baby wipes out of flannelette, and enjoying the fact that much to my surprise she has turned into a sewist too.

Looking forward to seeing what you create. Enjoy your weekend.

  16. I've been sick most of the week and recovering from a severe iMac crash. I will try to complete my pants sloper and finally cut out Sandra Betzina's 1291. I still say I wish I could sew as fast as I think

  18. Since I am recovering from heart surgery, I'll be sewing some preemie diaper shirts for a cousin's new grandbaby. He only weighs 2lbs, 14oz. He's still in the NICU in New Orleans but I think his mom would like some clothes that fit him. I cannot lift anything nor do much of anything except sew, knit, read or watch TV until August. It's a good thing that I have lots to sew.

  19. Carolyn,
I have a pattern in mind that I want to use with the beautiful floral print you so graciously gifted to me. But knowing my body type and potential fit issue (or feeling stifled in the bodice) I decided to take the easy way out, and make something I will get a lot of wear out of. Hoping to have pics for you in a day or two. :) Next stop: sewing machine...
