It's not like I wasn't already interested in this pattern since I blogged about these 60's mod style dresses back in 2008. I even made a dress or two from some 60's vintage patterns. So I told Lauren that I was in and would make the dress, then post my plus size body alterations hoping that these would help another plus size sewist.
Now here's the disclaimer ~ these will be the pattern alterations that I make to the pattern for my body! Hopefully if you're a plus size sewist and you're participating in the sew-a-long something I do will help you.
My idea for the fabric for this dress will update it, make it look less vintage and make it more appropriate for my work situation. All of these choices will be discussed in a future post since I'm still gathering materials.

Lauren has discussed the particulars of the sew-a-long on her blog post here. She has set up a Flickr group. There is a badge to put on your blog, if you have one and there are some resources if you need additional information. Since the date of my post is January 14th for pattern alterations, I probably won't say anything else about this until then...however, if you want to participate, please join in. I've already noticed the badge up on my new blog crush's blog ~ so thrilled that she will be joining in.
This is definitely my last post for 2013! I'm wishing everyone a very happy, blessed and joyful New Year! See you in 2014!!!
...as always more later!

What a cute dress and I know that you will update it to wear in your workplace. I will be watching for your process.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Carolyn. Love that pattern but of course I am a mod type of girl.
ReplyDeleteAwesome, I have learned from you for several years now, so you will be a great addition/guide for the sew along. I decided to go back through all your posts from the first one. I was truly enlightened. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI have made this dress and plan to make a few more in 2014. I love it!
ReplyDeleteSo excited to have you participating, Carolyn! I'm sure your tips will be sensational, as always!
ReplyDeleteI am so in. 1960's, you had me at hello! I look forward to your posts, I love the idea to make the dress modern and work appropriate.
ReplyDeleteThanks Carolyn. I have this pattern in my stash (are you surprised?) and your participation in this sewalong is going to encourage me to finally make it! Looking forward to hearing more.
ReplyDeleteAnd Happy New Year!
That dress is cute and I think really suit you. Good luck with it. Happy New Year!!
ReplyDeleteWill look forward to seeing your version. I think I have this patten in my stash; yet another one I have not got around to making.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you Carolyn. I look forward to seeing your sewing journey for 2014!
I have this pattern and can't wait to see what you do with it. I know it will be interesting!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year! I have learned so much from you in the past years. I look forward to more learning next year!
ReplyDeleteOh - I'm totally in. I was working on a muslin for this dress when I went to Fall Retreat in 2012! I can't get the darts in the right spot and with that interesting bodice construction, well - I'm losts. :) g
ReplyDeleteI have this pattern somewhere in my stash.... maybe I'll join in - will depend on how crazy work gets in the new year......
ReplyDeleteI have made the dress, but I wouldn't mind making another one.
ReplyDeleteLooks a very cute dress - I look forward to seeing your version!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see your vision for this dress!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year CMarie! I too have this pattern and this post has inspired me to stitch it up. Not sure that I can commit to the sew along however...at least not publicly. I see a fabulous CMarie creation on the horizon! Have a great one!
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm looking forward to this! I always gaze in wistful longing at this pattern, but have never purchased it and, quite frankly, am afraid to because I think it's not a good shape for me. Can't wait to see your version and all your alterations (the alterations are always the BEST part of blog projects, y'know?)
ReplyDeleteI like this pattern! I think I will join in! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
ReplyDeleteI made that dress a couple of times early on in my sewing career and loved it. I pulled one out recently that I made in a double knit and wore it. I can see that it has some fit issues now, so I'd love to revisit the pattern again. It's a really great little dress pattern. Can't wait to see what you make!
ReplyDeleteFirst, Happy New Year. I wish you a New Year filled with good health and happiness,. and lots of new fabrics! Second, I will be very interested in following your process in making this. I made a very similar dress in the early 70s (and may still have the Vogue pattern), but I made it in a pale cream light-weight wool and did hand embrodery on the bodice. I just about wore it out. Thanks for all the inspiration you passed on in 2013. I look forward to your 2014 posts.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a Very Happy New Year!!!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful new years day and may 2014 bring much joy to you and your loved ones! I appreciate very much your blog and am so inspired by your sewing spirit!
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this. I found a great new blog and I'm excited about joining the sew along. ( I love me some shift dresses!) Your dresses are always so elegant and polished. I can't wait to see what you do with this pattern!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year. Just maybe I will revisit shift dresses. I made a few early on in my sewing days, but the flair was too much for my frame. With a lil more sewing knowledge under my belt, I should try again with some modifications.
ReplyDeleteSo excited to see your adjustments. I actually love sew-alongs but always hesitate because I'm not able to make the adjustments.
