Now my version will have several "interpretative" changes:
- short sleeves instead of sleeveless
- black/white tweedy fabric instead of the plaid in the original design
- and satin bias binding instead of the black leather trim
For now, I am going to keep the tie but we will see how it works on me during the "fitting" cycle!
I know you are wondering what happened to the planned November wardrobe? I'm still going to work on it. The simple pieces will be constructed first around this dress and another piece that I'm just dying to add to my wardrobe. While the vintage dress/jacket combo will be worked on during the 4 day Thanksgiving weekend. I've also decided to do an "all at once" reveal. Hopefully this will spur me on to finishing the pieces and not abandoning the project!
I also have some better pics of the blue wool crepe dress and jacket as well as the argyle cardigan that I will share in another post. I promised to talk about some of the construction techniques and will answer a few of the questions you had in that post.
However, the question still remains, "Is it Friday yet?"
Nope, not yet! Still Thursday... but this is my sewing day, so I want it to stretch out as long as possible! Sorry!
ReplyDeleteI am anious to see what you have been doing though.
Isn't sewing great?
Hey woman. Loved your previous dress and this one sounds like a winner also.
ReplyDeleteI had to laugh when I saw the photo again. Wind gusts here today are around 50mph......don't think the hat would make it here on the prairie!
Love the dress and I am looking forward to seeing your version.
ReplyDeleteBTW,are you going to do swap this year?
Yes,it sure is Friday here in Melbourne - in fact it is 4.20pm! And I have a bottle of bubbly in the fridge and an episode of LOCI waiting on the DVR. Now just to last until 5.20.....
ReplyDeleteIt's FRIDAY!!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing the dress.
Happy sewing.
It is finally friday! I agree that short sleeves would be better than sleeveless. Only really skinny girls should go sleeveless, and I don't know many who qualify after either age 30 or a couple of kids!
ReplyDeleteHi Carolyn,
ReplyDeleteThat's a great dress!!! Makes me want to start another garment project, but I have two jackets and one skirt in need of finishing first (and probably a dress as well if I looked hard enough for all the pieces).
I know what you mean about the belt. I am leery of little skinny shiny belts too. But I have seen a lot of advice lately on belts making us look like we have a waist when we don't. How about a looser belt with a large buckle that rests on the hips instead of sitting at the waist? I have seen a bunch of these in catalogs lately and they do look good. It might work. And I think the dress needs something in the middle. But it is great looking and you are brave to copy a Dior. Nice job!
