Liberty of London Sheath Dress

My sewing is going to be boring for the next couple of dresses.  I'm trying to amass a few more work dresses for really corporate type meetings so I'm relying heavily upon my TNT dress pattern to make them.

The previous two dresses had variations done to them so that they would look a little different (faux welt pockets/chevron'd front insert).  This version is sewn as is.  When I asked my DD if I should add some gray piping to the neckline and armholes, her response was, "Can't just leave it alone can you?"

So here is my Liberty of London Sheath Dress alone:

'nuthin spectacular right?  Just a good basic sheath dress.

And here it is with the New Look 6788 jacket that I made a couple of years ago:

Some stats:

Fabric:
2.5 yards of Liberty of London fabric purchased from EOS earlier this year

Notions:
2.5 yards of gray rayon bemberg lining
22" gray invisible zipper
3 yards gray rayon hem tape
3 yards 1.5" black lace for the hem

I also cut out a black linen version of this dress and a cute little shawl collared bolero jacket in the same fabric to be worked on next weekend.  Hopefully after that I will make my version of the B5147 dress using one of the border prints I acquired this year.

I know it's boring sewing but it's necessary.  Hopefully, you'll stick around 'cause I will go back to sewing the more fun stuff soon!

Parting shot:

I bought some new shoes...and even though these are taupe & beige...they work well with the LL Dress and jacket.

...as always, more later!

  4. I love the dress, the fabric is beautiful
and I hear you on the corporate wardrobe
as much as I love sewing dresses to go out
its more rewarding to sew for work because
I find it harder to find appropriate clothes for work
in retail that has a good quality for a good price.
don't get me started on the hemlines, I don't know how wear MINIs to work, but I don't

I loved your July parade of dresses, too.
    sigh.
That's what my closet will look like one of these days.
My job has a very loose dress code. OK- NO dress code. But this is exactly what I want to wear. So feminine and pulled together and stylish.

  13. I don't think it's boring at all, it gives ones like me that are just starting out swing our own clothes inspiration, we see what can be done, and that's a good thing! I adore the fabric. I bet when you go into your meetings you are the best dressed one there, professional and feminine.

  15. Agree with everyone here, the fabric speaks on this one. Also your plus size post was terrific. Women have been held to one standard of what they should look like forever - note that no one can meet it without nearly killing themselves which says it all. The pattern companies should know better - you should consult to them, now there's an idea - your own line. Maybe we should start a petition.

Oh, and I enjoyed your take, and the comments on the NYT article. Thanks for posting it. I don't understand why other enterprising apparel companies don't take on the challenge. It appears to be a lucrative, untapped market.
