I've had a chisel and a block/cutting board in one version or another for at least the last decade...
...and lately it's become one of my favorite notions because it makes opening buttonholes so easy. No cutting the edges or ends of the buttonhole threads...don't have to pull out the scissors and pins to make sure you don't chop up your buttonholes. No the chisel fits neatly inside of the buttonhole and cuts cleanly. I love it.
You can get your own version at Nancy's Notions for $6.99. It's a great deal and if you don't have one, you should add it to your notion collection.
...more later!
I love my buttonhole cutter! Mine is actually just a regular wood chisel from the hardware store - I couldn't find the actual tool locally, so I improvised!
ReplyDeleteYou are right, it is wonderful. I love mine.
ReplyDeleteI also love my buttonhole chisel and purchased the keyhole cutter at Puyallup last month.
ReplyDeleteI've got one just like yours - and I love it too. It gives a more professional look and makes the job much easier for not a lot of money - I'm all for that!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I will be ordering one.
ReplyDeleteI was afraid of the buttonhole chisel at first. That was silly!! I use it all the time now. It does such a good job.
ReplyDeleteI've had one for years. I tend to use it off and on.
ReplyDeleteI've always used an exacto knife on my smallest cutting board. I bought my hubby a set of Sears chisels; I wonder if he'd notice if I absconded with one?
ReplyDeleteThis is one of my favorite notions, too. I haven't miscut a buttonhole since I got it. They eyelet cutter that came with my set has proved invaluable as well. It's great for adding a hole or two to a RTW belt.
ReplyDeletelol.. this is cute..a clever idea. I may have to get one of these.. I get nervous when I have to cut open a buttonhole.
ReplyDeleteWhile this notion is super- intriguing, I get a sick pleasure out of using the seam ripper to slice open buttonholes. Seriously. I don't know why!
ReplyDeleteAh, yes. Another of my favorite sewing notions (shhh, don't tell my erasable fabric pen). I bought a buttonhole cutter years ago and bade farewell to slicing through my buttonholes with my seam ripper.
ReplyDeleteI was just in a store the other day wondering what someone would use a 3 inch square healing mat for, and now i know!
ReplyDeleteI just ordered mine.
ReplyDeleteAngela
Neat! I will have to get me one of those.
ReplyDeleteMines arrived today. Can't wait to try it! :)
