Some Victoria for me...

What does this silhouette have in common with my own?  Why did I look at this dress and think I could make this and it would look good on me?  Seriously, I know you think I'm crazy but this would look amazing on me.  Why?  Because if I choose the right fabric, cut it right for my body so that it emphasizes my bustline, de-emphasizes my waist and hips by gently flowing over them and cut a side curve onto the dress, it would work on me...basically rework my TNT dress pattern.

It's from Victoria Beckham's Spring RTW 2012 line:

This dress just made it onto my spring/summer sewing list.  I think I have an amazing silk buried in the bins that I could use for this and have a pretty new spring dress.  Sometimes you just have to look at a silhouette more than the person in the dress to realize it would work for you.

...as always, more later!

  1. I like the collar on this dress! I can totally see it working for you, especially if you have strategic placement of the decorative design elements. It would make a lovely dress for spring - can't wait to see it!

  2. This is why I always have to look at the technical drawings on patterns. Not that you get to do that with clothes! It's a lovely dress, especially the collar. But WHAT has the first model got on her feet?

  4. You have a gift I wish I had. You can look at any dress, regardless of the size, and absolutely know how it will look on your body. I wish I could do that. that's why you have a fantastic wardrobe.

  9. I'm taking notes again. You have such a gift for turning the runway looks into the "realway" looks. This would look splendid on you. Perfect for spring.

One day I realized I was appreciating the looks of the model(s) more than how I would look in what she was wearing. I was so disgusted that I quit looking at clothes for a while. I still have not developed that talent beyond knowing plain things without a lot of extra fabric are good for me. I love the feel of oversize tops so it's hard to balance the two things.

  11. I like the overall shape of this dress with the collar and front yoke. Plus the vertical stripes of whatever they are underneath are good. When I first took a looked at the dress it reminded me of blue Carebears on the front of her dress. Plus the color draws my eye more to the sides of the dress than the middle especially the hip area. This is just some food for thought, you may not agree.

  12. Looking forward to what you do with this dress. It looks like the model on style.com has some killer shoes that you probably need as well:).

  14. I agree with you 100%. This dress did nothing for Michelle Wms, IMHO. But I think you'd totally rock it.

  15. Interesting! For all the same reasons, this might work for me too! Thanks for the perspective! (When I first saw a picture of that dress, I thought the clouds were a bit 'young' and instantly dismissed the dress as something that I had no interest in... )

  16. I'm still not sure, but I definitely would need to see the dress on someone with some shape to work with. I do see that it does have remarkably similar lines to your TNT dress, so I think I'm going to take some time and look at lines and see if I can develop an eye for this sort of thing. Certainly it would save me a lot of time looking at patterns to know "yes this works" or "no that won't do it for me". Food for thought, definitely.

  17. I think you can only improve on Michelle's look here. My first thought is that it is too high and buttoned up around the neck for you; but if you leave it open to form a "V" like your new white shirt it will be lovely. JMHO

  18. I love this dress so much that I might just attempt making one. But I'd go for some peace silks I picked out from my fav Etsy shop - http://FabricTreasury.Etsy.com .
